A WOMAN. A woman with a cat on her shoulder and she is peering over your shoulder Sal, do you see that familiar black hair and she is peeeeering. And suddenly HUG]

I got the owl and unfortunately Karkitty wouldn't come with me but Fluffy did. [The calico cat doesn't even look up. Karkitty is the name Di gave to a particularly stubborn cat back home who yowls and sulks a lot. She doesn't call him that in front of Karkat] You know how he hates broomsticks. And flying. And generally leaving the ground.

[Sudden wife hugs are the best kinds of hugs to get. Sal twists around to wrap his arms around her waist and presses his face into her mess of black hair.] I think one Karkitty in the castle is more than enough.

[He presses a warm kiss to her cheek.] I missed you.

I missed you as well! Leaving me all alone with the cats, how cruel of you three. [She kisses his forehead and grins] How have you and they been?

Sorry, love. I'll have a chat with Professor Dumbledore about coming home on the weekends. [He's completely delighted to see her, he really is, but finding out his older brother is dead by having his ghost show up at the school bit a bit of a damper on his mood.

He's trying his best not to let on though.] We're doing quite well if I do say so myself. Nepeta is excelling at Care for Magical Creatures.

Maybe you could come here more often. [He grins teasingly, nuzzling touching his nose to hers.] We could sneak you in on Friday then get you home by Sunday.

[His grin fades.] My brother is here.

[She raises an eyebrow at his suggestion but smiles, shrugging and curling her arms around his neck] We'll see about that then.

They're both...he...[Sal swallows, the lump in his throat getting bigger by the second.] He's a ghost, Di. My older brother is dead and I didn't know.

...Sweetheart. [Dierdre wraps her arms around him and pulls him to her chest] Oh Sal, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry he...and you found out this way--It isn't fair. Why didn't anyone send an owl or tell us or anything? Does...Does Karkat know?

[He buries his face in her mane of hair again, blocking out the world for just a few minutes. He draws in a deep, slightly shaky breath.]

I don't know. It was probably an error with the muggle post, they're always losing our mail... [He holds her tighter, breath catching in his throat.] He was the first one to see them-

[Of course she's not sure he will but anything to take the burden off Sal]

[He brushes his lips against her temple.] I won't hold it against you if you try though. I think he likes you better than me anyway.

[She shakes her head. She doesn't believe that anymore than Karkat believes Sal didn't know, but she'll still take responsibility]

[She hides a blush by quickly kissing his forehead. Sometimes he makes he feel like a teenager just in love all over again. After years and years of being his lover, after marriage, and after a child, she can still hardly believe he chose her of all people.]
