It's probably a cultural thing. Vampires are pretty popular in muggle pop culture--I'm not sure how many muggleborns would realize vampires are real, but it didn't take me long to find out when I was reading up on wizarding stuff, so... I don't know much about vampirism in general, I'm afraid--sunlight problems are just pretty well-known, haha!
