Things I have figured out about the incident a few weeks ago.

1. Whatever affected the school body as a whole had to have been something that didn't stand out, but also something that's not usually around.

2. The school body experienced mass hallucinations of a "doppelganger" - a shadow that looked like them that told the truth about themselves. People closest to those affected were able to see the shadows in return.

3. The memorial would have been an easy way to transfer an object in and out of the school without it being noticed to have "dark magical properties". Something part of the decorations.

In conclusion of my investigations, the object in question is either a) not here anymore and back in its owner's possession or b) in storage. But this proves that there's no need for the Ministry to snoop through our belongings because if the object was still around we'd still be affected in some way.

[Oh wow. He knew Dipper was pretty smart, but all of this really all makes sense.]

Its kind of scary to think there's something out there that could do something like that.

Not to mention whoever has it could try to do it again.

Actually I'm not sure they'd do it twice. They've already gotten the Ministry's attention, so smuggling the object back into Hogwarts - assuming it belongs somewhere else - would be difficult with the amped up security.

I guess that's true. I'm still trying to figure out why they did any of this. What did they have to gain by making a bunch of kids face their fears? ...Unless maybe that was unexpected.

I think they were probably planning on making us afraid of ourselves. I'm not sure how long it would've lasted otherwise but it seems like everything's back to normal. Take away someone's confidence and they're pretty vulnerable.

That's true, but it seems like such a hassle to make a few people feel bad.

There had to have been a bigger motive than that but for the life of me I haven't figured that part out yet.

Your guess is as good as mine. Do you think this has anything to do with the war? I mean it did happen during the memorial.

It's hard to tell. I thought all the Death Eaters had been caught or otherwise through the year but with the Ministry's reaction to this it's hard to gauge just where this falls in line with the war and if it does.

Maybe some people escaped? Or have been in hiding or something. That really doesn't strike me as unusual.

Do you mean with Professor Snow? In that case it reeks like a government cover-up conspiracy.

Me neither. I remember reading something about a few people claiming to be under the Imperious curse, so whether they were lying or they actually were is another thing entirely.

Somebody smuggled something dangerous into the castle while there was a Ministry official here. It probably looks pretty bad on their records.

What's the Imperious curse do?

Yeah, so, if it was a government conspiracy then maybe the added results of the weird shadows was an accident and this really messed their plan up.

The Imperius curse is one of the three unforgivable curses. The person it's cast on is under the caster's complete and total control. It's described as entering a trance-like state where you're not in control of your body.

I'm not sure. It doesn't sound like something a Death Eater would mess up.
