Don't say that sarcastically, I did exactly as you instructed and said not a word to him. You just leave very poor instructions. Obviously I don't care what ridiculous romantic mess is going on in the room but it would have been nice to have had some structure when all I really needed to be allowed to do was shout at both of you.
