...In case you can't tell, I'm excited for Quidditch try outs :)

I've been trying to think of a name for my goat ever since Professor Mercer made the announcement. I've never had a pet before! Well, mum and dad haven't let me keep anything aside from fireflies, and they're kind of easy to deal with, plus they don't mess with dad's allergies. A goat's going to be different.

I'm thinking maybe Clover, Snitch or Seasalt? I guess I could always wait to meet it before deciding. I'm open to suggestions though!

If you call it Snitch, you better charm it gold. Because really, that's the sort of thing that has to happen.

Maybe I could get one with light brown fur? Those usually look yellow in some lights, right?

If I go with that, would I have to charm it blue? Everyone seems to be turning their goats colours.

You wouldn't have to. Do the goats like being colours, you think?

Do they even know they're different colours? She doesn't seem to be aware of much of anything aside from chewing on my robes.

Good point. I guess I mean, if you're turning the colours through magic, do they like that?

Mmm...I'm not sure. I saw a couple of goats kick up a fuss but not that much.

Hmm, I guess it just doesn't sit right with me.

Me neither. I wouldn't do it either way. It could be interesting but at the same time people don't seem to be considering the harm it could do to their goats.

And I don't think Professor Mercer would approve.

Anyway, I really hope you get some great talent at tryouts!

Nah. We're supposed to be using them for bezoar, but they're cute. I guess it makes sense that people would personalize them like some kind of accessory.

I hope so too! I know if we get the right amount of enthusiasm, we'll get the cup for sure this year!

I know! He's actually been mostly staying in his tank this year! He's doing very well.

I caught new fireflies over the summer. I guess I'll have to write home and tell mum and dad about my goat.

It's nice when they light up my room at night. I keep them in a tank on my desk, but I always have to remind my parents to feed them while I'm away :\

What do they eat?

Sometimes other larvae and slugs, sometimes pollen or nectar. It depends on the type. I make sure to gather enough before I come back though, so it's not like mum and dad have to forage.

They get a break during winter when they hibernate at least.

Wow, that's really interesting. I didn't know they hibernate!

Mmm! They do! Some can hibernate for years! There's one that buried itself under a piece of bark I got for the tank that hasn't come out since first year.

I check on her regularly. She's still alive surprisingly. I thought I'd killed her at first. You have no idea how distressed I was.

Oh, you poor thing! I'm glad she's alright.

Yeah, me too. I named her Serenity. She's kind of special and I hope I'm there when she comes out of hibernation.

I think sometimes I run out of names thanks to my fireflies.

At least it seems like you can ask the other students for opinions. Most of them are nice and won't suggest things like "Wanker Mcgee."

I guess that's always a bonus.

Though Stark did suggest charming her gold if I went with Snitch.

Are you sure charming her gold wouldn't mess up the bezoar-making? That is what this assignment is about.

Also...isn't a snitch the American term for grassing on someone as well?

That's what I said to Punzie, or something along those lines anyway. A lot of the other kids seem to be doing it, but I don't think I will.

...Ugh, that's true. I was thinking more about Quidditch.

Well yeah, you could just pick and hope. Or you could charm it gold, which is easier and more interesting.
