[And she does. She knew when he asked where she was he'd wind up seeking her out. She'd really rather not make a big deal out of this but she was certain he'd have sought her out anyway if she didn't tell him. She waits in the now empty courtyard, using the spell he told her to dry out her books as best as she can. The pages end up getting crinkled and the binding isn't as good but the books are legible and that's all that matters.]

[If any of his friends saw the angry redhead running down the corridors at a speed they probably thought he wasn't capable of, Karkat didn't make any time for them. Talking over the journals right now was useless. He needed to be there in person. He was getting sick of this. Why couldn't people just leave her alone? When he saw the entrance way to the courtyard, he stopped, leaning against the doorway to catch his breath.]

Nepeta?

[She was sitting against the fountain, knees tucked up against her chest. She could have very easily gone unnoticed, small as she was. Next to her was her backpack which she used to carry her books. She looked up when she heard Karkat and gave him a smile that could have very well convinced most people everything was fine.]

Hey Karkat. You didn't need to run.

[Convince most people, but not Karkat. He straightened himself, running a hand through his hair to mess it up even more - was he sweating? God, he was so out of shape - as he made his way over, sitting down next to her on the floor of the courtyard against the fountain. Leaning back against it, he tilted his head to look at her. Nothing seemed out of place. She herself wasn't wet, no bruising or cuts. He gave a small sigh of relief before running his hand down his face.]

Of course I needed to.

You worry too much.

[Nepeta leaned against him, dropping her head against his shoulder, closing her eyes and quietly murmuring.]

Thank you, though. [They really hadn't hurt her. Just taunted her, kept her backpack out of her reach by tossing it to one another and then dumping most of its contents into the water. Seemed like every time she got harassed by some people it was something new---this time her height and the fact that she still looked like she was a first or second year.]

[He shifted down a little so she wouldn't have to lean up so much. He wasn't as short as her but he was still on the small and chubby side, but his attitude kept anyone except for maybe Strider now and then from teasing him about it. He tilted his head to press his face against her hair, hoping it was comforting.]

So who do I need to beat up?

[That made her chuckle a teeny bit, and she was indeed comforted by the motion]

You don't have to beat up anyone. The last thing I want if you getting in trouble.

Can I at least hex them?

[Yes, he's being completely serious.]

Oh, c'mon. I have to do something.

[He's just going to cross his arms over his chest and pout.]

[She laughs a little and opens her eyes, pulling her head away.]

You already are. You came to find me.

[That makes him flush and he looks away, arms loosening a bit.]

Promise me you'll at least tell mum and dad about this. You can't keep them in the dark forever. Or at least mum since she's your Head of House.

[At that she said up straighter and gave him a scandalized look]

No way! They'll just get upset and worried. I don't want anyone else to know, okay Karkat?

But what if something happens? Something worse that lands you in the hospital wing?

[He doesn't really want to think about that happening.]

They wouldn't believe that you just fell down the stairs or something.

That's not going to happen. [She murmured sullenly, looking away from him and tugging on her hair]

[He looked the other way and sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.]

I'm just worried it will because I care about you.

...I know. [Nepeta would have given him, or anyone else the exact same advice.] I know you're just trying to do what's best for me it's just.

[Just what exactly? Well she was ashamed for one. She wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people didn't already know about the bullying considering how fast the huge the rumor mill in this school was. Hell even if a good chunk of the student people didn't harass her directly she knew a lot of the things people said behind her back. So she knew if she went to her parents about this it would only be a matter of time before it reinforced everyone's belief that she was a stupid, freaky, pathetic child who couldn't take care of herself.]

I'm ok really. I'm use to it and if it ever gets physical then I'd put a stop to it.

[Karkat drew his knees up to his chest and draped his arms over them, staring up at the sky overhead. She shouldn't be used to it, and he honestly didn't mind getting detention for hitting the people that did it. If it protected her, then it was fine. He closed his eyes, sighing. It was her decision. He couldn't do anything but urge her to seek a way to stop it.]

You promise?

[She held out her hand, extending her pinky to him]

Promise.
