_{[After spending a couple days with his dead father and suddenly losing him again, it's needless to say that Dirk isn't in good shape. So far, he's said little about it. Because he's hurt. And angry. Not at his dad--he's glad he was able to see him once more. Maybe when more time has gone by he'll realise how glad he is to have gotten to say goodbye. He's just so upset that he had to go.

It ripped off the scab over his feelings and he felt even worse than he did when it first happened all those months ago. What makes it worse is that he's still having a hard time doing anything other than screaming and crying about it. This is why he doesn't say anything in the journals.

Instead, he just walks to the hospital wing with the intention of hugging Dolores and faceplanting her side. If she's standing. If she's sitting he intends to climb into her lap.]}

It's commendable that you're offering to help others out with their problems, but please take some time for yourself too Dolores. What happened to you isn't something that can be gotten over easily.

[And sure enough, right on the dot at 5 pm there's the familiar sound of his knuckles rapping on hard wood. By now he's feeling slightly foolish; he's nearly a constant visitor to the Hostpial Wing.]

[She's keeping busy to distract herself, not wanting to spend time dwelling over something she thought she had put to rest long ago. Seeing her son again had been beneficial, in many ways, but it had still left her disturbed.

The combination of her work and her thoughts is enough that she doesn't hear the door when it opens or the footsteps heading towards her, and she lets out a soft 'oh' of surprise when there's suddenly a young boy attached to her side. A glance down to the top of a head of blond hair leaves her in no doubt as to who it is, and she gives a small smile]

Hello, Dirk..

[Her voice is soft, and she strokes her hand over his hair once, before carefully detaching him from her side and picking him up, holding him securely]

[The door is opened within moments, and Dolores smiles when she sees him]

Hello, Philip.. I'm almost finished here, if you'd like to wait for a few minutes?

[She does have her own quarters, though she's rarely in them, but it occurs to her that he might prefer it]

[He returns her smile with a tired one of his own. It had, after all, been one of those nights.]

That's fine with me. I'll wait out here.

[She nods, and it's not long before she reappears and carefully closes the door behind her. She looks at him a little more closely, and her expression turns slightly concerned]

Are you alright, dear?

[Only a few fifteen minutes go by before Marceline shows up at the hospital wing door. Looking at her, you wouldn't think she'd been human again only a few days ago, her skin back to being pale and ears slightly pointed. Her hands are stuffed into the pockets of a jacket that had been hastily thrown on, more for comfort if anything.]

[Her question is answered with something of a resigned smile, no less tired than the first one as he shrugs slightly.]

Given the circumstances, I could be better. But I shouldn't be complaining.

[Dolores is waiting for her, and smiles faintly when she appears, moving over to her and putting one arm gently around her shoulders]

You can use the bed in the back room, dear.. It's quieter.

[She makes a small gesture for him to follow her, and leads the way down the hall]

I do wish you would come to see me afterwards. Was it a difficult night?

I wouldn't want to impose on you Dolores. Most nights it's usually fine, but it just so happened that yesterday was...not as relaxing as I'd have liked it to be.

[Out of habit, his hand goes up to the area underneath his collarbone. He really shouldn't, but every time he thinks of his condition he automatically starts feeling an itch where his bite scars are.]

[She doesn't really look like she usually does, if anything she looks a bit ruffled, unsure of herself. It's like approaching Marshall after becoming human all over again.]

Thank you, ma'am. Um... [She pulled her hands out of her pockets, revealing drying scabs.] I kind of hit the wall near my bed.

It's never an imposition, Philip.. it's my job to make sure that everyone here is in the best of health, and that includes you.

[There's a brief smile that fades when his hand goes to his collar. As they walk, she touches his arm]

What happened?

[There's a small nod of understanding, and once she has Marceline in the back room, she takes her hand to look at the injury, gently running her thumb over the scabs and checking the movement of the girl's fingers before placing one of her own against Marceline's palm]

Can you make a fist for me? Squeeze as hard as you can.

Just a rough night. The potions have been working fine, I don't lose my mind at all. The transformations are just painful, some nights worse than others. Side effects remained contained.

[He grimaces slightly before he shakes his head and relaxes again.]
