You're welcome, 'Tu. [With a quick ruffle of Mituna's unruly hair, he stands up and goes back to rummaging through his desk.] Now, let's see if I can find that ink well you came here for.

[Making a vague, out-of-habit attempt at straightening his hair out again he watches Sal rummage in his desk. Oh, right, the ink.]

Can I really write in yellow for your clath?

Of course you can. It'd be awfully hypocritical of me if I didn't let my students use colored ink when I use red for everything.

[He licks a few crumbs from his fingers and stands, walking over to lean on the other side of the desk.]

I like the red.

[Don't mind him, he just has his head half-shoved into his bottom drawer. Darn thing is bigger on the inside.]

I like it too. Back when we were students my brother and I used to try to fool out teachers by using the same shade of red and writing each others names on our papers. It never worked. Apparently our handwritings were distinct enough to tell apart.

That and most of his work consisted of talking about how triggering and oppressive words like 'muggle' were and that certain professors needed to "check their education privilege".

[The boy moves around the desk, curiously peering over Sal's shoulder.]

[Pause, cogs turning.]

[Sal pauses in his rummaging, surfacing from his drawer with a well of black ink clutched in his hand tighter than it probably should be.]

No. My twin, Kankri. Karkat's dad was our older brother. He never got to come to Hogwarts as a student.

Mituna doesn't say anything. It's a rare moment of him not putting his foot in his mouth, not saying something inappropriate, where he's quiet and still and just for a few seconds you'd not believe there's a damn thing wrong with him.

Carefully, he takes the inkwell from Sal's hand and drops it into his pocket.]

[The smile slowly returns to Sal's face and he gives Mituna a light pat on the arm. He's glad Mituna isn't pushing it. It means (he hopes) that he could very well be getting better.]

You're welcome. Do you have any other classes soon or do you have time to keep your godfather company while he gets to work on a school project for next semester?

[Learning to sign has done more for him than help him talk to Kurloz. It's kept his mind active, keeping him learning even if his aptitude for magic has been damaged. He may never be the wizard he once was, but he could certainly one day be the person he was.]

[Sal plops back into his chair and motions to the typewriter on his desk- something he brought from home to make this little pet project easier to complete.]

[Placing a finger on his lips, he nods 'yes' and peers at the typewriter.]

I'm writing a play based on the founding of Hogwarts. It deals with the four founders coming together to make a safe place for magical children to learn to control and utilize their magic and takes into account all the history up to Salazar Slytherin's departure. I'm hoping to finish it by winter holidays so I can edit it and get Dumbledore's approval so it can be performed near the end of the year.

[His eyes go a little bit wide, but he nods and it at least looks like he understands.]

So far? 143 pages. I've been working on it since mid-summer.
