Rune 01: Fehu

Students,
I would like to state that my office is open. I have a sneaking suspicion that Parents' Weekend was not exactly the most enjoyable thing for some of you, for varying circumstances. While I am not a student therapist in any form, I am available if you need someone to talk to.

Even if you need to speak with someone in the middle of the night, just inform me of which House you are in and I will accompany you to my office. In light of recent circumstances I feel this is necessary.

You would be surprised at how few visits I receive from students.
My office is always open. You would not be interrupting anything.

uH, oKAY, i'LL BE THERE IN A LITTLE WHILE, i'LL TRY AND HURRY BUT, iT MIGHT TAKE ME A WHILE TO MAKE IT UP THE STAIRS, uHH, bECAUSE MY MAGIC ISN'T WORKING SO GOOD AT THE MOMENT,,,

Would you like me to come and accompany you?

[The truth was, he would have loved help, but he needed to prepare himself and he didn't think that talking before he was ready would be a good idea.]

As you wish.
I'll be waiting. Take your time.
But if you need me to accompany you, just say the word.

[Tavros shows up a little while later- well, more like over a half hour later. He had a lot of difficulty getting up the stairs. He knocks on the office door- can you even hear the knock? It's very timid.]

[He's at his desk--grading some assignments from the previous week--and sets down his quill. He debated saying that his visitor just come in, that the door was unlocked. Instead, Cyrus gets up and goes to the door, opening it for Tavros.]

[He smiles, it's small, but friendly and inviting.]

Trouble finding the place?

[Tavros freezes as the door opens and looks up at the Professor. He tries to return the smile, but it doesn't end up looking like much of one.]

Uhh, no... Not really! Well, uh, I had to ask directions from someone, I guess, but... that's my fault, uh, for not taking your class...Um, sorry, for that by the way.

[Cyrus just smiles warmly at him, waving a hand as if apologizing himself.]

No need to apologize. Runes aren't exactly everyone's first choice, or first interest. I hear more students are inclined towards divination or arithmancy before runes, anyways.

[He steps into his office, holding the door open for the boy to come in.]

Now, what's on your mind?

[Tavros wheels in. He's not sure where to go exactly, so he just stops a few feet away from the door. At Cyrus's question, he freezes up again.]

I...

[Yeah, he hadn't prepared himself enough for this, and his voice comes up short. Everything he'd wanted to say is failing him. He grips the armrests of his chair, biting his lip, as he's overcome with emotion just by thinking about it. He'd been fine, yesterday. Yesterday he'd been able to justify it. But now that it was over, now that he really thought about it... He swallowed, fighting the lump in his throat, trying not to break down, but he was unable to speak.]

[Cyrus turns back to look at Tavros and immediately crouches down so he's somewhat eye level. He knows that sort of silence from his own personal experience. He doesn't smile this time, just looks at Tavros with a calm, serene sort of expression.]

It's okay. Take your time.

[Tavros tries to control himself, tries not to let his sadness overtake him, but he can't. He's beyond being able to bottle everything up anymore. Between life throwing shit at him left and right, Jade, the rap battle, and then parents day, it was all too much.

He suddenly leaned forward, throwing his arms around the Runes Professor, because he just really, really needed a hug- and yeah, he was definitely crying. And under normal circumstances, he would've felt really stupid about it. But he was too upset to care.]

D-do you think he...hates me...?

[He doesn't tense up like he does with other people, but he then wraps his arms around Tavros and smiles slightly, hugging the boy in return. He shooshes quietly, trying to silently comfort him. He's not sure what's got the boy upset, but he'll take it for now.]

Who do you think hates you?

[The shooshing has no effect, Tavros continues crying, trying not to actually sob, but he does let one out, which turns into a cough, which is enough to embarrass him, because he's sure the professor doesn't want him coughing all over him. But at the question, Tavros just buries himself further into Cyrus, hands gripping at the fabric of his shirt.]

D-dad... I... didn't- I...avoided h-him all day, a-and...

[He can't continue, and he cough-sobs again.]

[He continues to shoosh him quietly, holding him and letting the boy cry for a moment. He doesn't exactly care if his clothes are getting messed up. He'll just clean them once Tavros feels better.]

No, no. I don't think so. Parents know that their children don't always want to see them.

[He knows from experience...because...well. Ow. This is hitting really close to home.]

It's alright, I don't think your dad hates you.

[Tavros swallows, trying to calm down and after a few seconds he just shakes his head as he tries to be able to speak again.]

You, u-um, don't underst-stand because... I think I m-missed the chance to ever s-see him again! Because he was...he's...d-d-

[And again, he can't continue, can't get the word out. Especially not that word.]

[Oh that...really hit close to him with that one.]

You don't have to say it.

[And this time, Cyrus is the one hugging Tavros instead. He wished he had the opportunity to see his father again, but he'd probably be scared of the same thing...that his father might hate him.]

[But instead he just remains composed.]

I don't think that's the case. It might be something that could be arranged for you.

N-no, I don't...no...how could a-anyone-? You can't j-just...bring back people, l-like that!

[He flashes a faint little smile, almost amused at the panicking--in a sort of paternal way.]

I think you forget where we are. I'm whatever was cast in order to bring deceased parents here for Parents' Day would be able to be cast just temporarily for you. I can look into it.

[He places a hand on Tavros's shoulder, trying to calm him down.]

I know what it's like, actually.
