So i know this book of monsters is meant to have a bit of an attitude problem.
But the blasted thing has stolen my shoe.
I believe i can get it to abandon it by dangling my second one but i can only be in one place at one time.
So im not quite sure how to go from dangling the bait to retrieving my other shoe without losing something more important than the first shoe.
Any suggestions?

[For anyone in the Gryffindor boys' dorm, Jake has spent the last hour or so standing on his bed and trying various methods of reclaiming his lost shoe from under it with the vicious book. Naturally, he's warned any of his bunkmates of the danger, but that doesn't mean he's had any better luck getting the thing to relinquish his shoe.]

Theres something marginally contradictory about those two statements being closely intertwined as such.
But i do figure that sounds like a good idea.

So i have to impress it to make it respect me! I see. That makes an alarming amount of sense given the topic of discussion is in fact a book with teeth.
