Why do we wash towels when we dry off with them after getting clean?

If I wanted to impress you with words, I'd say something much more useful than pointing out the blindingly obvious.

Quite simply, if you are taking a hot shower--as most do--part of the dampness on your skin is also sweat. Also, any soap residue can mildew and even water can spoil depending on the mineral content. The water at Hogwarts has a particularly high Magnesium count.
