[And then Dave's putting his journal away and heading down to the courtyard.

[When Dave gets there, it's really no laughing matter. Karkat is laying kind of helplessly on the floor of the courtyard, surrounded by shredded clothes and a spilled bookbag, tail flipping angrily in the air as he tries to lift himself up on his arms. When he spots Dave, he lets out a rather loud screeching sound, brow furrowing.]

Nevertheless, Dave crosses the courtyard and carefully picks up the books and puts them back in the bookbag.]

[Annnnd here is Eridan, strolling on over and --oh god Karkat is for real a merman. Still kinda jealous but not that much at all.

He drops down next to Karkat and points at him, looking back up at Dave. He knew EXACTLY knew exactly how to assess this situation.]

[Karkat kind of has the same reaction to Eridan being a girl. He kind of stops dead in his next screech when he spots the Slytherin before he kind of bursts out into a fit of mermish laughter, until Eridan speaks at least. Better watch where you point that finger, especially when he displays a couple of rows of razor sharp teeth, tail sweeping back and forth behind him. And then they're getting a look that loosely translates to 'just help me into water, you assholes'.]

[Dave collapses into a fit of snickers when he sees Eridan as well, but he brings it back together.]

[He slings Karkat's bookbag over his shoulder, and then addresses him.]

[You'd best believe he retracted that finger from the display of teeth. Yikes man, take a joke. He also ends up standing up because of that, scratching his chin thoughtfully as Dave speaks. MAN, the choices the choices.]

[It's a good thing he can still mildly understand English. Sure his hearing made things sound like he was underwater but he could understand what they were saying. He nodded in Dave's direction with a mildly grateful smile before looking at Eridan and rolling his eyes, tail giving another flip upwards towards his roommate. There was nothing he could really do if they were the ones that were going to help him, and he didn't want to die like a beached whale.

Karkat gave a small sigh, the sound a dry wheeze out of the gills on his neck.]

[Dave nods in acknowledgment of the smile, and moves down toward the tail that looks dry and uncomfortable.]

How you doing, Ariel? You gonna make it to the water or you want one of us to hose you down before we get started?

[He could pull out his wand and hose him down with aguamenti before they go, but on the other hand that might make Karkat harder to carry.]

[Eridan was able to catch the sound of the wheeze and he recognized that it wasn't just some frustrated groan of sorts. He was currently a bit curious to how he was going to end up carrying him from that side, but he had an idea... and then Dave spoke. Ah. Yeah... Right about now he's leaving the spellcasting to someone that isn't plagued with two speech impediments right now, but he's all game for the options.

Though he realizes that Karkat can't actually talk, so he realizes how to compromise this situation.]

[To be truthful, Karkat had tried using aguamenti on himself before they got there, but because mermish didn't work really well with spell casting, it had been a bit useless. His face flushed at Dave calling him Ariel, but he complied with Eridan's suggestion, screeching twice in a high pitched shrill. It was better than nothing, and who knew it might help.]

[He takes out his wand and aims it at Karkat.]

[Water jets out of the tip of his wand and Dave, immature douche that he is, immediately holds it at crotch level, making sure not to spray Karkat directly because he doesn't want to hurt him. He's not sure where he should be aiming, so he just sort of. Soaks him. Immediately, the skin takes on a texture that looks more shiny and scaly in places, more like rubbery dolphin skin in others, and more like seaweed at the fringes.]
