Really, most of the time it took was because she wouldn't let me have the damned instructions. And everything looks like gibberish when you're slightly inebriated. [Trying to get the instruction manual from a drunk woman. Have you tried it before? It's stupid and the hugest time waster.]

Ahaha, yeah. She can get pretty stubborn when she's drunk. Believe me, I know. Though it has it's perks. I'm pretty sure one time I convinced her Chuck E Cheese was high class muggle cuisine.

[She sighs and digs her journal out of her bag and hands it to him.]

I'd appreciate if you didn't read my entire journal, but I think you trust my privacy enough to only acquire what you need to know.

[Considering her previous doubt of him, he's a little surprised that she would trust him enough to read her journal. But he doesn't question it, because that would just call attention to it.]

[He opens it, looking specifically for red ink and glossing over anything that isn't his business. When he finds it, he stops. When he reads it, his reaction is immediate. He grips the paper tighter and lets a breath hiss out.]

[He closes the journal and thrusts it in Rose's direction, letting his head fall back against the chair.]

I'm sorry. That was... really fucking uncool of him.

[You're still her father. But her trust is a very fragile thing, so it helps that he's willing to not snoop. Like he really needs to feed that fire already blazing.

She just takes it back from him and puts it back in his schoolbag.]

I have no plans on speaking to your son anytime soon. He can do whatever stupid things he wishes to do. It's not my business.

[He's quiet for a few moments as he just... seethes. He'd told Dave that he couldn't protect him from Snow, and then he'd... gone and done that. It was just. What the fuck was he thinking?

And then to treat Rose like that? It was just screwed up, and he was kinda pissed off. But he took a few deep breaths. He had a kid in front of him to tend to, and he couldn't lose his temper and go off and punish Dave without first making sure she's okay. So finally, he lifts his head back up and looks at her.]

I just don't want you to think that just because... y'know. [He means the fact that you've only known he's your dad for a little while.] That I'm playing favourites or something. That he's gonna get off easy, or that I don't care. Because I do.

[Rose just speaks in a slight deadpan. She's totally over it. Except she's totally not.]

Teenagers do dumb things all the time. Your son was being exceptionally dumb and compromised more than just himself, that's all. No harm done. I don't really care at this point. I have classes to worry about and better things to do with my time.

[He takes in a breath, letting it out slowly. This wasn't going well. At all. But what did he expect, really? He didn't know. Fuck. He kinda felt like a really shitty dad right now.]

I've had enough experiences with Lalondes, y'know.

[He's trying to avoid specifically comparing her to Roxanne...]

I know you're pissed at him. Or hurt. Both? Probably both. Because y'know what? You're also a Strider and I'd be pissed as hell and upset too. You don't have to hide it. Especially not when you're talking to me.

Last I checked, my mother had different ways of dealing with things.

[Rose was bristling a bit. She was trying so hard to not be like her mother, that she just forgets how much she's still similar to her. It's more so just her still being young and dumb.]

I'm not hurt. There's no need for me to be hurt. We've merely been acquaintances and it was only coming to school did we finally know of our blood being of the same.
