I'm so so beyond furious right now.

Guess what I came home to? A f**king flood in my apartment. Apparently one of the pipes in my bathroom came loose and it's been slow dripping for a few DAYS before I got home. There was about five centimeters of water EVERYWHERE. And being a basement level apartment it's going to take me freaking forever to dry the place out again. Oh, and now I have to re-buy some of my furniture too. I hate shopping for stuff like furniture.

This shit has ALSO ruined two of my good amps, my X-box, my sterio and a bunch of my recording stuff. Good f**king thing I have insurance. I need to replace my electronics immediately though and I hear insurance takes forever to clear.

I'm just really glad I left my electric guitar on the kitchen table after I was done re-stringing it over Easter. That thing is custom made and can't really be replaced to me.

God this is depressing. If I was much of a drinker, I think I'd be completely pissed right now.

I sincerely never thought I would say this but I am so tiered tired of baking.
I can't do it anymore!
Dad's stocked up on so many mixes that I can hardly not use them at all, but!
Ugh!
I miss making potions!
I don't suppose those fall under some loophole in regards to the "no magic outside school" rule, hm?
Hoo hoo, I'd be whipping them up left and right if that were the case!
There's only so many times you can flip on a mixer before your brain wants to short-circuit, I suppose.
At least I can re-re-re-read my mystery novels...
Though, I will say it is much less interesting when you know how the story will end up! :B

Anybody doing something particularly interesting this summer?

Everyone having fun being back with their families? Endless parties and all that?

[There's a small bite in Alec's heart at the thought of it, but putting up with his grandmother's social affairs is infinitely better than putting up with his mother's preferences for entertainment, far better than putting up with his mother in general.

Far be it for him to say that he misses Hogwarts...but he'd much rather be there, surrounded by people who even if they don't like them, are genuine in their dislike, than he wants to be here.]

My mind's about to rot over.

[Yes, it's only been a week, but it's been a very long-feeling week.]

I don't suppose anyone's done anything interesting.

[Even mocking other people's ideas of interesting seems suddenly better than simply being alone, and bored.]

I am incandescently happy right now! Gryffindor, you played beautifully! Never have I seen such skill and glory upon the pitch, you have done your captain and dare I say, your house proud! Surely this will boost us to victory in all areas of the school!

Stark! In case you did not hear me on the pitch, I asked you to suck my Norwegian Ridgeback.  You should be ashamed for such petty moves you insolent manchild, you are certainly lucky not to have been knocked off your broom.

Moving on! I've quite forgotten how many places I've promised to visit through the summer, but I shall also offer my summer-home in Norway! The moose and the vast space of it all makes it quite worth the trip, I assure you all. We must have a party or I shall forget all of your faces.

Greetings, to students and teachers both.

An introduction is in order. I am called Professor Yu, and I will be teaching a course on Magical Cultures in the coming school year. We will be learning about the history of magic in places beyond the boundaries of the Ministry of Magic here. If you have interest in the course, please approach me with your questions. My job is not yet to make your lives miserable.

As I understand it, yesterday was the last day of exams. Congratulations to those who took part. I have no doubt your hard work will be rewarded in time.

(OOC: signups are here.)

Since the end of the year is approaching I think we should do something fun. I was thinking that on the last day of classes we could do a flash mob at lunch.
For those of you who don't know what a flash mob is, it's when you do a surprise song and dance routine in the middle of an unexpected place.

I was planning on doing it to Fallout Boy's "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark." I have a great routine planned out to it and I'd be more than happy to play it for those of you who don't know the song.

This will be open to everyone, not just Music Club members. We'll get together a couple of nights a week to learn the routine and then we'll do it at lunchtime on the last day of classes. Just let me know here if you're interested!

The number of wild-eyed fifth years I've seen today is beginning to border on amusing. I'm sure I don't remember this much panic during OWLs last year.

That said, I have some free time to help anyone in dire need of Potions or Astronomy practice before next Monday's exams. Since I'm considering going into teaching now is as good a time as any to begin.

[Private to Alfred Jones]
And my constant comments as to your hard-headedness prove true. That was quite a knock you took.

I suppose I should be glad that, as tests and finals go, 6th year is kind of a breather year. The OWLs are behind you and the NEWTs are still looming on the horizon but otherwise not an immediate threat. I personally didn't think the OWLs were all that bad, even though my marks were just decent. Nothing to write home about, especially since the family wouldn't know what nocturnal birds have to do with tests anyway. Still, good luck to everyone who's got to square off against the big tests this year, especially if you're still trying to get your head sorted after the school's most recent bout with strangeness.

Ah yeah, about that, the odd mind and body stuff. The only thing I had to deal with was a body that was about 20 years older than it ought've been (and the same height I am now, of course). I remember the whole thing pretty clearly, but I think that's because my mind wasn't changed. So... for those of you who've been told that their brains were mixed up, do you remember anything about those days at all? Is it like you blacked out for a few days, or is it all a little fuzzy, or do you remember all of it clearly?

I ask because I'm sure I'm soon to have a certain conversation, and this'll give me some insight on where that talk will fall on a scale of "awkward" to "stupdendously awkward".

One day, just one day, my dear siblings will decide that maybe they won't inflict various torments on me the day before I go back to school.

Today is not that day.

I have to give them points for creativity, however. Charming permutation ciphers into all my books was a new one.

If I ever think about snakes again, it'll be too soon. I'm officially done with their slithery ways. They can all either grow some legs and be proper lizards or just steer clear of me. All snakes the world over are officially notified. The ball's in your court now, snakes.

I'd also like to apologize to anyone who might've got distracted from what they were doing if they caught sight of all the snogging Sherlock and I were doing in the Great Hall. And the not-as-great halls. And the courtyard. And... you know, just. Take this as a general apology.

Best. Game. Ever.

It was seriously the most fun I've had playing in like, forever. Our pyrotechnics were so cool. I'm glad we decided to do it even if it was kinda over the top.

Also, I just want to say how much I love my team mates. You guys are all freaking awesome and I couldn't ask for better.

And Slytherin! HOLY CRAP. You guys did a good job too. You totally gave us a run for our money. It was so close it made for a pretty intense and fun game.

Over Christmas it became clearer to me than ever before that Muggles seem to spend a great amount of time waiting in places, for vehicles to take them to other places.

I have no idea how they tolerate it.

Essays.

I'm sure you all just fucking love essays, don't you? Well it's been too long since I assigned one and considering my last assignment mysteriously went missing, that's what you're gonna get. So pick a language of your choice, I don't even care which one. It could be pig Latin for all I care at this point.

Got your language picked out?

Write me ten inches on why people suck.

The first person to complain about this assignment gets 100 points taken away, so just shut up and do it.

Whoever has the most compelling argument on why people suck gets 150 points and the essay blown up and stuck in the entrance hall for everyone to see every day.

Greetings, everyone, and welcome back!

I do hope that everyone has had a marvelous Christmas. All of the festivities, all of the music got me thinking - I need to write some Christmas music! But it wouldn't be timely anymore, now, would it? I must find another occasion to celebrate. What is next on the calendar - Valentine's Day...!? Well I certanily wouldn't announce if I were planning to write a serenade for a sweetheart; it would ruin the surprise.

That said, I will be taking commissions! You have my word that your beau will have no idea that he or she is having music written for them until 14 February itself. Contact me privately and we can discuss prices or other arrangements. It does seem a bit early to be thinking of Valentine's Day, of course, but bear in mind that I take care with what I compose and would prefer not to do things in a rush. I am not much of a poet but I adore setting poetry to music, so if you've got a favorite, I'd love to work with it.

On another note, what is this dueling fiasco that everyone's whispering about!? I did not think the school would encourage such violence. I'd much prefer to be in my dormitory relaxing. I've never been fond of unnecessary quarrels, let alone ones that turn physical.

In any case, I look forward to hearing from you all. And if anyone is willing to allow me to experiment a bit with adding a bit more... compelling charm to the tune, I would be up for it. I'm still quite interested in making music practical and applicable to magic, though I promise not to sneak anything in that is not requested for specifically.

Tchüss!

Ohh man so how about those nominees for the Yule Ball?? i mean im pretty stoked to hear some of those choices! obvs. ;)

[Can't stop won't stop drawing smileyfaces. He's such a Muggle-born, silly lamb.]

I'm curious who everyone's for though. Or is that supposed to be like some huuuuge mondo secret thing? haha i bet some of the people aren't happy knowing. =P but to anyone who doesnt think their Yule Ball king/prince or queen/princess material i'd have to disagree. I think your all perfectly great choices! Even the little kiddies!

[Someone has been spending a lot of his free time on one of the Slytherin common room sofas, keeping to himself and a couple of texts on Arithmancy. If it wasn't obvious by the dark circles under his eyes, he had not been sleeping enough and probably spending far too much time writing papers, testing theories and reading.]

I've taken notice to the startling reality that hardly anyone understands anything about Arithmancy other than it being a class, and those that do have a plethora of misconceptions about the study.

Bridget Wenlock first discovered the magical properties of seven - many might know how seven is generally a rather lucky number. Stir a potion seven times do a little jig and you've got one lucky batch of whatever you're making - that was me being facetious, I hardly advise dancing whilst making potions. That doesn't alter the fact that the number seven is used in potion making and even in other fields of magic aside from Arithmancy and Potions.

Most scoff at the idea of being able to predict the future through science or through magic, but what you get with Arithmancy is an intriguing mix of the two. A practical way of going about it, one might think. )
