So I'm a bit late in making this introduction.

Hi.

I'm Professor Captor, and I'll be teaching Flying. I know it's a bit late to just show up and start teaching, so I'll apologize for that. There were a few complications, but I'm here now.

I'm also offering one on one practice, if anyone wants to really improve their techniques, or are too nervous and shy to ask for help in class. So, just. Feel free to contact me if you need help.

Flying classes will resume on Monday, so I hope to see everyone in this coming week.

I'VE BEEN SEVERELY SLACKING IN ASSIGNING HOMEWORK AND FOR THAT I APOLOGIZE, NOT THAT MAY OF YOU HAVE REALLY MINDED. SO!

THIS ASSIGNMENT WILL SPAN ALL YEARS AND ALL HOUSES. I WANT YOU ALL TO TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR OWN FAMILY HISTORY AND TRACK DOWN THE FIRST TRACES OF MAGIC IN YOUR FAMILY. FROM THAT I WANT YOU TO MAKE A FAMILY TREE THAT STRETCHES DOWN FROM THEM TO YOU. I'M AWARE THAT THERE ARE AN AWFUL LOT OF SIBLINGS AND COUSINS AND OTHER RELATIONS HERE AT HOGWARTS SO DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP FROM ONE ANOTHER WHEN FILLING IN GAPS. THE SAME GOES FOR FAMILY NOT AT SCHOOL. WRITE HOME, ASK QUESTIONS, ASK FOR FAMILY HEIRLOOMS OR PAPERS YOU CAN STUDY.

FOR STUDENTS WITH A HEAVY MAGICAL LINEAGE, DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE NON-MAGICAL RELATIVES AND THOSE WITHOUT A LONG HISTORY OF MAGIC IN THEIR FAMILY, DO A BIT OF SEARCHING. YOU NEVER KNOW WHERE YOU MIGHT FIND A GREAT-UNCLE TWICE REMOVED WHO HAD A HABIT OF TURNING TAX COLLECTORS INTO NEWTS.

ONCE ALL IS SAID AND DONE YOU'LL PRESENT YOUR FINDINGS IN FRONT OF THE CLASS. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK HERE OR IN PERSON. MY DOOR IS ALWAYS OPEN.

[Added later:]

SINCE I'VE BEEN GETTING A LOT OF THESE QUESTIONS I FEEL LIKE IT'LL BE EASIER TO JUST LEAVE THE ANSWERS HERE.

1. PRESENTATION TO THE CLASS IS NOT MANDATORY IF YOU'RE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH IT. I'M OT GOING TO FORCE ANYONE INTO PUBLIC SPEAKING AND IT WILL NOT EFFECT YOUR GRADE.

2. STUDENTS WHO WERE ADOPTED MAY DO THEIR TREES BASED ON THEIR ADOPTIVE FAMILIES. FAMILY DOESN'T END WITH BLOOD AFTER ALL.

3. MUGGLEBORN STUDENTS SHOULD DO THE ASSIGNMENT AS NORMAL, JUST KEEP A LOOK OUT IN YOUR RESEARCH FOR ANY POSSIBLE MAGICAL RELATIVES.

I'm sure you've all be wondering why I've had the ground outside of Greenhouse One plowed as I did. To answer that, I'm asking for volunteers to help finish the job. You're to be planting magical seeds within the garden. When they grow, the vines will snake over the the greenhouse, and then roses will sprout from within the vines. These plants are of my own creation, and once fully grown they're quite lovely. They are charmed to collect sunlight and filter it into the greenhouse as well, so they won't be blocking out the sun like you might expect.

I would like for a few students to volunteer for this task. Consider it penance for all of the trouble caused a few days ago.

Also, every student in my class are to meet this Monday in Greenhouse three. We will be planting and growing orchids for Professor Donoghue and Professor Matteris's wedding.

Love, when it's genuine, is a beautiful thing, wouldn't everyone agree?

This October will be particularly interesting for all of my Astronomy students.

First off, before dawn on the morning of the 21st, I'll be giving students an opportunity for extra credit in my class. The Orionid meteor shower will be at its brightest, and any student who comes to observe it and then write me an essay on their findings will get extra credit towards their final grade.

There are actually two meteor showers this month, the Draconid shower being overnight from the 8th-9th. Should the weather be clear, I'll be offering the chance to go out and observe this one as well.

That said, there's another interesting astronomical sight this month, and that's the double star Albireo. It's said in some circles that some types of magic are stronger when cast under a double star, particularly hexes. I'd like between 30-50cm from each of you detailing the reasons why this might be advantageous when using a hex defensively. Alternately, you may write about why one shouldn't cast a hex when a double star is particularly bright.

I understand if you would rather not speak to me after what happened. But I feel I owe you an explanation and an apology.

[private to Murdoc;]
I believe we need to talk, as painful and awkward as that may be.

I apologize for the short notice, but I've been called away to my former laboratory to assist with some measurements. As such, all students will have a free period today and Thursday. I strongly suggest that you all use it to study, because there will be a quiz next week.

If any of you haven't turned in the last assignment, I'll grant an extension until Friday at 3 PM.

[filtered private to Feferi Peixes]

Be a good girl while I'm gone. I've asked Professor Vantas-Leijon to keep an eye on you. If you need anything, please go see her. You don't need to worry about me. I'm fine.

[filtered to staff and against Snow]

I'm going to Oxford to speak to some former colleagues who have dealt with citizenship issues. I'll not have any of our students sent off under Snow's watch.

[Notice that she isn't saying 'any of the staff'. She figures that's dealt with and there's no need to ask.]

[This entry might seem a little uncharacteristically chipper coming from Murdoc of all people. Why? Because it's all pretty much fake. He's engaged to Sybille simply to prevent her from being deported and this entry has been made in the interest of seeming genuine.]

Good evening, Hogwarts. It is my great pleasure to announce that after nearly twenty years of being madly in love, both myself and the lovely Miss Matteris have gotten ourselves engaged to be married.

As of yet we haven't set a date for the wedding but we were simply too excited to hold off on announcing this to our dear friends. I'm certain you will all be invited.

Now that I've had a chance to go over your summer assignments, I must say, there are some...creative interpretations here. Creative meaning 'I don't know how you came to this conclusion'. I'm also shocked at how many of you charted the wrong constellations.

That's why I'm giving an additional assignment, on top of what I've said in classes.

The Western Zodiac has traditionally been broken up into twelve signs, each associated with a particular constellation. I expect an essay from each of you on the very basics about each constellation, as it applies to magic. The types it's associated with, the elements, all of it.

Also, I'm making this clear right now: I am no longer tolerating any disrespect from any student. All future detentions from me will be served on the days of Quidditch matches and on Hogsmeade weekends, whenever possible.

[You may want to cover your ears for this one, folks. Professor Constance Peixes is angry. She is very angry. She hasn't sent a Howler, but this might as well be one going out to the entire faculty and student body.]

I am absolutely appalled at the degree of inappropriate subject matter that our students are currently discussing in their journals. You should all be ashamed of yourselves, and particularly so for discussing it with incoming first-years. Mr. Makara and Mr. Kishitani, you both have a month's detention, beginning on the first day of fall term. Mr. Makara, for writing the entry in question, and Mr. Kishitani, for encouraging the discussion, particularly among the younger students.

What in Merlin's name were you thinking? This isn't a 'friendly discussion about biology', this was getting students to discuss matters of a highly personal and private nature! And at the ages of eleven, twelve, and thirteen!

AND MY DAUGHTER AMONG THOSE STUDENTS!

You continued arguing about it being perfectly all right to discuss touching oneself after some of the younger girls said they weren't comfortable with it! They were right to think that their mothers wouldn't want to see them in the middle of a discussion like that, because they don't!

To the rest of you: I highly recommend you think before you write a journal entry discussing a topic of a sexual nature, and frankly, I discourage you from doing so.

[So he went to write something that was probably totally extremely important, but instead there's just splooshes of red ink where his journal has repelled it.

Okay spill the beans, who broke the journals? Which one of you did it? SCHOOL IS OUT, HOW DOES ONE MANAGE TO SCREW THE JOURNALS UP OVER THE HOLIDAYS? That takes skill. That takes skill and determination.]

[Students, there is a new announcement awaiting you in the morning, written in unfamiliar handwriting. Griffindors and Hufflepuffs, take note!]

Good morning students. I am Professor Coulson, and I'll be joining the staff at Hogwarts as a teacher; specifically, I'll be teaching the Griffindor and Hufflepuff students Defence against the Dark Arts.

Now, it's come to my attention that Professor Donaghue issued all of you homework over the summer? Griffindors and Hufflepuffs, this homework is not compulsory for you. There will be a light test awaiting you at the start of the second week of school though, so the choice is yours. Personally, I really recommend not cramming everything into the first week. Know the theory and practise your spells consistently.

I'll see all of you when school starts. Happy holidays.

[Filtered to Murdoc. Unhackable.]

If you wouldn't mind, could I have a private word with you?

As much as I enjoyed getting to know my fellow professors better
It's wonderful to be home

Now summer homework! I furgot to assign any so I'll be giving everyone a quick assignment I expect on the first day of class.
Find one magical creature that lives near you and describe them in as much detail as you can. I will not be counting off for short descriptions of fast moving or elusive creatures but I do know the different children. I can see how much effort you put into your essays.

And no Nepeta, you may not use kneazels. <3

[FILTERED TO TEACHERS]

For any that are interested, I've been thinking of having a little get together. Nothing fancy, just a few drinks. I'm planning it for most the day on the 11th, starting just after noon. You can of course attend at whatever time you please.

I would ask that any that got into fights with Artollo on the trip please not attend or if you trully wish to attend, bring your manners. Understood?

[The voice that speaks from the journals sounds stern, even as it's rather smooth, even. This is the voice of a lady who does not mess around.]

Hello, everyone. My name is Professor Constance Peixes, and come fall term, I'll be serving as one of the Astronomy professors. I look forward to working with you all.

However, I wish to warn you that I expect a lot out of my students. In return, you will have the experience of learning from one of the Ministry's finest astronomers.

As such, over the summer, I am assigning a simple task to each of you.

For those of you going into second year through fourth year: in the early morning of 15th July, the moon will be hiding Jupiter from view. I want all of you to observe this event, if possible, and write an essay on your observations.

Fourth through sixth-years: the preceding assignment, and one other: the constellation Cepheus will be visible through the summer. I would like you to track the passage of the constellation, noting the position relative to its closest neighboring constellations and write an essay on your observations. I would also like to see your tracking charts.

Sixth and seventh-years: Both the prior assignments. In addition, each of you are to pick two additional constellations and track their patterns over the summer. Both your charts and your reports will be due on the first class of fall term.

I wish you all an excellent summer, and will look forward to meeting you in the fall.
