Greetings, to students and teachers both.

An introduction is in order. I am called Professor Yu, and I will be teaching a course on Magical Cultures in the coming school year. We will be learning about the history of magic in places beyond the boundaries of the Ministry of Magic here. If you have interest in the course, please approach me with your questions. My job is not yet to make your lives miserable.

As I understand it, yesterday was the last day of exams. Congratulations to those who took part. I have no doubt your hard work will be rewarded in time.

With yesterday having been the last day of exams as you mentioned im not so sure i want to think about future classes just yet.
Though i will say that your course does seem to be something i may be interested in!
What years do you teach?

Failing the OWLS is a more difficult task than you might anticipate.
Nevertheless, the option is available to you no matter what happens.

My work ethic for the year was terrible though. I think i crammed more panicked last minute studying into the last few months than ive studied in my entire life.
But surely i will keep an eye on those signups.

Welcome, Professor Yu. That sounds like an interesting subject to teach - might I ask which cultures specifically you intend to teach?

If you're offering the class to students in their final year I'm certainly interested.

My specialty lies in the traditions of China, but I intend to cover a number of Asian and European groups as well.
And if it will not hinder you in your pursuit of your other studies, I more than welcome you to attend.
Awareness can never come too late.

Checking in again at the beginning of the coming school year may be necessary, but I see no reason that it cannot be done. May I know the name of my interested student?

It's a pleasure to have you on staff, Professor Yu. I'm Professor Ampora, I teach Defence Against the Dark arts, I'm also Head of Slytherin.
[He hasn't quite recognised her, but let him list his accomplishments.]

Professor Ampora? The name sounds familiar. Have you worked at the school long?

My thanks. I do not need anything so time-consuming as a tour, fortunately, but a summary of the year would not go amiss. It's been some time since I visited the school.

Only a little more than a year now. You didn't happen to work within the ministry, did you?

Unfortunately a summary is very nearly as complicated as a tour. We've had a considerable amount of magical hi-jinx throughout the year, though I'm certain you've heard of it. The incidents, at the very least, haven't been physically harmful.

I did, in fact. I worked in Magical Law Enforcement until only recently.

I have heard some things, though rumor is never so accurate as truth. It seems that it was not so far off, however. I hope there is no "yet" amended to that statement in the near future.

We must have met at some point, then. I'm certain a face to face meeting will job my memory.

Should you ever desire specifics, I would be happy to go into detail so you know what to expect. As for that, well, I like to believe it has something to do with a very capable staff of professors and nurses that we've had few dangerous incidents.

[And sure enough, in less than ten minutes there's a knock on Murdoc's door.]

[And with that reply, he’s shutting his journal and attending to some marking that needs to be done. He’s been waiting for the knock, so he’s quick to react the moment he hears it. He uses his wand to wordlessly open the door, but he does force a half smile and nod his head once it reveals the woman standing behind it.]

Ah, yes. Come in.

[Rather than approach Murdoc for a handshake when the door enters, she opts for a bow, hands in front of her with one fist pressed to the palm of the opposite hand.]

Professor Ampora. I've no doubt the school does well, with a former Auror as a Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.

Hello Professor Yu! I'm Professor Wesley Sun. Magical Cultures sounds like an interesting course indeed. I'll encourage my children to enroll, they could use a more worldwide view of the wizarding world.

If you don't mind me asking, would you happen to be teaching Chinese Magical Culture?

I will attempt to cover as many cultures as I can, but China is something of my realm of expertise, so it will certainly be covered in depth.

Excellent. I might be a third generation Chinese myself but it's always important to know one's roots.

I could not agree more, Professor Sun. Particularly when the roots go so deep.

So you're from the Mainland then?

I hope you'll excuse my average Chinese then. My parents were determined that I would learn the language but I have to admit that my grasp on it isn't as good as some others.

Is that so? Well, practice can do it much good, if you do not protest my taking the time to speak in my native tongue.

If anything I should be thanking you for giving me this chance to practice! Please excuse my mistakes as well; I haven't used Mandarin in quite awhile.

Have you met any of the other teachers? We've got quite an interesting bunch here at Hogwarts, some more stranger than others! But I mean it all in a good way; variety is the spice of life after all.

I have not yet met many, though I hope to take the time before summer to do so. Your Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher is a former colleague of mine, though not one I often worked with.

[papatiger]

It's a small world. Murdoc's a good man and a good teacher, he really knows his spells very well.

So you were an Auror before this as well. You must be very good with your spellwork.

Only thanks to plentiful practice. It is, as I'm sure you know, a very demanding career.
