In some cases I would agree with you.

I am not saying that purebloods do not deserve their power but that power should go to those most suited to wield it. In many cases this will be purebloods, but as you said, not always. I rankle at the idea of genius left uncultured due to the nature of someone's birth and of pieces of society left to rot because someone's father wasn't the idiot they are. As for whether intelligence will out, being intelligent about keeping your power does not mean one is necessarily intelligent in applying it or cares to apply it for the good of others.

And there is the matter that those in power are the least likely to pursue change to the status quo and the thus least likely to move humanity forward. This does not apply solely to purebloods either.

i think you are not quite understanding what i am saying because i certainly agree with you whole heartedly i really do

but those who are in power stay in power because they have the skills and the wits to hold their power

the usurption of power is as simple as being able to kill those who are in power

if you are an idiot and you are in a high position you are very likely to be killed because someone else covets your power

and while in recent generations some families have started to move away from this method it is still very much a thing that can and does happen

there are also angry villagers to contend with and when they are displeased it does not take much to incite them into revolting

but then i am not the best person to be speaking with about such things you might wish to speak to gilgamesh wulfenbach and tarvek sturmvarous they know politics much better than i do i am as i said a simple retainer it is my job to stand there and look pretty until my lady tells me to hit someone

Ah. I wasn't aware assassination was such a widespread tactic. I can't say I have any idea what would stop people from murdering for power. [He hesitates a bit.] It is sometimes hard to remember that Death Eaters are people of our society as well. England could have much more of a problem with murder than Germany, but it is hard to tell due to its inherently covert nature. And also because we like to pretend things are civilized, even though it's been only a year and who knows how many of them truly remain?

[Lyrl stops, wondering suddenly how to extract himself from this conversation.]

and it is generally done very subtley
not so many would be as frank about it as me ^_^
also its like i said a lot of families are moving away from that
when masters bill and barry assumed control as the heads of the heterodyne family they
well they pretty much told the jaeger clan heads that thats enough of all that maruadering nonsense thank you very much its time to settle down and live peaceful lives

because we are actively trying to change our ways to better fit with a society that doesnt need violence to solve all its problems and we can only do that by being exposed to cultures that have a much better grasp on that sort of thing
although like i said i dont think pretending that you dont have a problem is really a good way of dealing with it

You are definitely full of candor. [Lyrl can't imagine talking about his family like this, even though he doesn't like it. The living parts anyway.] That is something England should do as well. Try to learn from other countries, that is, since we obviously still have so much to learn.

I agree. Perhaps people will have more of a moment of reflection over the anniversary. [It's certainly uncomfortable for him.]
