I'm in a bit of a pickle right now. This will be my last year at Hogwarts and I know that while some students may not know what they want to do with their abilities, I do. I know exactly who I am and what I want to be. However, there is a problem...my family expects me to take up a job working for the ministry.

We are not wealthy, nor prestigious, but they hold me up to high expectations--I assume this is because they want me to become well...wealthy and prestigious. I wish to use my magic for other reasons, but I have no idea how I would be able to bring this up to my father. I also don't trust him to not overreact; he has a habit of doing so when something doesn't go exactly as planned.

I suppose what I'm asking for in this journal is advice. It would be much appreciated.

Hmm, if it were that easy, I would gladly consider what you're telling me.

The advantage of slamming out is if he goes ballistic you will not have to handle the fall out until he has come to his senses and realized that his life is over and you are in the dawn of your youth.

The ministry isn't all power and paperwork, you know. There's the potential to make changes if you do well with your work.

Had you ever considered a career as an auror? What classes are you particularly talented in?

I know that and I have considered the ministry when the subject was brought up. However, after thinking it over as much as I have, I know it's not what I want to do with myself after Hogwarts.

As for talent, I excel in just about all of my classes.

It sounds like there is no other choice, you have to talk to him. I guess my advice would to talk to him but just enough for him to let it sink in? Does that make sense?

I think you would make good minister. You are very smart and all that stuff. But if you do not want to, then do what you want! I somewhat agree with Georgia, but I don't think your father is very nice man all the time.

You should do what all you German people do. Go into the mountains and yodel in your lederhosen.

Is the goal you have in mind something your family is specifically against? If not, I would suggest mentioning it gently at first, in passing. If you paint it in as positive a light as possible before you reveal it's your goal, they may very well have warmed up to it by then.

Play to the things they like. If there's anything prestigious you can glean from what you want to do, milk that for all it's worth.

Hell it's not like you can make a decent living doing other shit besides being in the ministry. Tell your dad that, and if he doesn't like it well then that's his fucking problem.

You should do what your Papa says! After all, they're our parents! They've been through all kinds off stuff that we haven't, and they probably know a lot about things that we don't! You're a super smart guy Ludwig but I bet your dad must be even smaaaaaarter if he raised you to be as cool as you are now!
