[She might not have known him a terribly long time, but long enough to be able to see when there's something not quite right about his demeanour. Still, she smiles and moves to the chair as it's offered, seating herself and brushing a crease from her skirt.]

You had thought I would refuse? For shame, my dear.

[Her smile tilts to something gently teasing, and she clasps her hands on her lap.]

How are you feeling?

I suspected you wouldn't, but it never hurts to have manners, and I am grateful that you're here.

[He turns his back to her to start preparing the tea, a blend he'd made for her, as he answers. It allows his to school his features more thoroughly, and put a little wryness into his tone instead of the more genuine deep embarrassment.] Older. Less embarrassing. And yourself?

[While he turns his back, she settles herself more comfortably and allows an idle smile to play about her lips. As unsettling as Rhys can be at times, she can't help but enjoy his company. There are so few people in her peer group here.]

Older. Less embarrassing. I believe you understand perfectly.

[Dolores chuckles softly.]

Your accent was very charming back then.

It was very thick. I didn't even learn to speak English until I was nine or ten. [He admits, as he sets things up on the tray.] And honestly, you have nothing to be embarrassed about. You were a beautiful and charming girl - it's quite clear the kind of woman you would grow up to be.

[She chuckles gently, lowering her head for a moment and tucking a wisp of hair behind her ear.]

You flatter me, but you were a rather.. interesting young man. Charming, in your own way.

[Dolores lets out a soft hum.]

I enjoyed what time I spent with you.

[He glances over his shoulder at her, eyebrows raised.] I can only assume that whatever magic did that to us has had long term effects on you. Either that, or you're contractually obligated to say so in your position as nurse. I don't believe I was ever called charming at that age. Usually precisely the opposite.

[That gets a laugh.]

My dear Rhys, I would never be so insincere as to deliver a compliment where I felt it unwarranted. Nor does my position as a nurse obligate me to give them.

[She chuckles again.]

I had rather differing tastes to other people my age then, and most thought me more of a busybody than anything flattering.

Beautiful girls are forgiven a great many sins. [says lightly, bringing the tray with the tea and lemon and honey over] If you had the kind of taste that made an awkward, rude, and sullen boy like I was at that age charming, then I'm sure a great many boys in the school found the sting of being unpopular and disliked quite bearable.

I had the kind of taste that drew me to people that others would actively avoid.

[And it seems that taste is something that followed her to adulthood. She smiles and shifts in her chair as he sets the tray down.]

Being judged so harshly at such a young age can be quite damaging. I endeavoured fiercely to make sure that I was kind to everyone. Equality was very important to me. It still is.

I was lucky to be the recipient of such an endeavor, then. [pours the tea, one of her favorite blends, and then sits back with his own cup, unsweetened] That's actually why I asked you here. I wanted to apologize for my behavior. I was not a fiercely kind child, and was often suspicious of others without cause. Thank you for your patience in what I consider a time of need.

[He gives her a rueful smile, but the slightly stiff way he holds his cup says he's still embarrassed, no matter how gracious she's being.]

There's no apology needed, but I shall accept it.

[She picks up the other cup, sips it carefully, and lets out a soft sigh. Lovely.]

And you are quite welcome. Of course, you have my thanks as well. I would have been quite lost if you hadn't helped me.

I imagine you would have found your way there eventually, by asking someone who was a bit less of a prat. But you're welcome. [inclines his head]

I might have asked someone else, but I chose you.

[Dolores lowers her eyes to her tea as she takes a sip, and she smiles.]

Besides, I think you're being too harsh on yourself. You could have easily told me to go away.

No. I really couldn't have. I don't imagine many teenage boys could have managed it. [stirring honey into his tea slowly]

[She blushes softly - no mean feat for a vampire - and looks away with a quiet chuckle.]

And you are still charming. Your suspicion of me was understandable, given the odd circumstances.

Merely honest. [Oh, there's an interesting reaction from her ... Rhys finds it rather pleasant, and he smiles to himself.] And I suppose it was, but I was suspicious of everyone at that age, warranted or no. One of my many failings.

[She's always reacted that way to unexpected compliments, and his smile only draws one of her own as she demurely brushes a wisp of hair behind her ear.]

I would not be so quick to call it a failing... but it was a pity, perhaps, that we did not attend school at the same time.

My experience might have been considerably different. [agrees, and then wonders if she's flirting with him. Probably not, but it's a curious thought.]

But I believe I missed you by about a year. A little enough gap in retrospect, but still enough to keep up from making each other's acquaintance sooner, which is definitely a pity, yes.

[If she were asked directly she would be unsure if she is flirting with him or not. Every sensible bone in her body would tell her that is a bad idea.]

I shall be content in the fact that we were able to meet at all.

[chuckles softly] It sounds as though you believe we have only little time, Dolores. But I anticipate years of mutually worthwhile interactions, mm?

Time is relative, particularly for one such as I.

[Unless someone takes her life, she will likely outlive him, and she knows this. It saddens her, but she knows that it's something she's going to have to come to terms with.

Still, she smiles.]

But you will not be rid of me so easily, I can promise you that.
