Valentine's Day is coming up in a few weeks, so I feel like it's worth asking some romance related questions. Mostly, I ask now because I'm sure I'll be busy later. I'm mostly curious.

Do you believe in love at first sight or true love? I'm not going to ridicule your answer, that would hardly be professional. Me? I can't believe such sentiments, as nice as they sound. [She'd love to believe that, but Rose was much too cynical for such rubbish. There's a lot of reasons as to why, but she isn't going to talk about those. Ever.]

If you're with someone and expecting them to do something for the occasion, what would you be expecting? I suppose I'm asking what your ideal would be. Just chocolate and flowers or the whole ten yards?

I assume that this isn't serious serious. Like that you've completely fallen for me and must marry me right this instance serious.

Well. We don't have many places we can go too.
And as far as movies go. I don't know what I'm choosing. :(
Is there a specific way to decide choosing a movie to watch?

There are action films which are my favorite comedies romance drama and quite a good many others.

[She doesn't want to come off as narcissistic about her appearance, but she knows better than to think she isn't bad looking. She just doesn't want this to be an attraction for all the wrong reasons. She wants to believe that he may actually like her for other reasons.]

[If she's still willing to meet up with him, she can't be that put off, can she? He sags a little, relieved.]

[Rose will be waiting patiently at the Great Hall for Jake. She isn't put off at all. She just wonders if this is actually going to happen or if he's just pulling her leg.]

[He's worked himself into quite a nervous fit by the time he makes it to the Great Hall. His hair has always been a messy force to be reckoned with, but now it sticks up all sorts of comically, making it obvious how many times he's carded his hands through it in vague distress. As he approaches her he tries to smooth it flat.]

Punctual as always. [He attempts a smile.]

[She laughs a little and digs into her bag to find her hairbrush. You're making quite a mess of yourself, Jake.]

I would hate to make someone wait on me when we had decided a certain time.

I hope I haven't made you wait, then.

[He hunches his shoulders a little and scratches at the back of his neck.] Salutations yourself, Rose. [He exhales a little shakily and offers her his hand.] Erm, take a walk with me?

[She kind of brushes his hair down a bit with the brush she pulls out of her bag.] Not at all. Waiting just means I have time to think a bit. No worries.

[She puts her brush away.] Of course. I am rather fond of walks.

[It doesn't do much. Jake English's hair is a wild wiry mess of (clean, thankfully) unkept insanity. No brush can tame it.]

Heh. [God how does he even start this conversation. He's so nervous. BHyjbrfd.] So, erm... Well, I figure I've known you quite a long time at this point, hm? It's been a really swell five years.

[She's beginning to notice. How on Earth do you deal with such messy hair. Sheesh!]

I didn't think you paid all that much attention to me. We do come from different Houses. I assumed that you were more interested in those in your immediate circle.

[Well it has been untamable all his life, so. He's gotten used to it. He chuckles a bit, carding his hand through it and messing it up even further.]

Ah, well. You'd be surprised. I may not always be the brightest lightbulb, but I do notice things. [He looks away, going slightly red in the face and muttering.] And I have most certainly noticed you.

Is it because of my siblings? I'm sure you know at least one of them quite personally. I suppose it makes sense that you would notice me by affiliation. [She's still skeptical that he thought her to stick out from the bunch.]

It started out as such-- I mean, I met you the summer of first year, when I came home with Dirk and met the whole lot of you. And back then it wasn't anything in particular, you were Dirk's sweet little sister with the pretty lavender eyes, and you were already worlds smarter than me. [He makes a bit of a face at himself.] ...or, I don't know, perhaps looking back on it I was stricken by your looks from the get-go. And there was a definite allure when you were sorted into Slytherin-- it's hardly why I fancy you, but it added a level of mystery to you that made me want to maintain the fragile awkward friendship we'd forged in lieu of you being the younger sister of my best friend.

[Rose keeps a calm expression, but she would have wrinkled her nose in exasperation of at the mention of her looks.] Is it still that way? Is it merely my face that has you smitten with me? [You're going to have to work pretty hard for her to break that assumption though.] I'm going to be quite frank. I'm not quite sure why you would be interested in me over someone else. A relationship is a fairly deep bond to forge. You must have considered this thought for a bit, yes?

[Good grief, and it's her sensibility that's really driving this shit home for him. And embarrassing him to no end. He covers his face with his hands. Good grief, being sixteen is suffering.]

I know how deep of a bond relationships can be when they're meaningful. I've never truly had the experience myself given my stark lack of proper interaction with adults, and people in general before coming to this school, but I think I know my own feelings well enough to not say this is a superficial enjoyment. It's terribly rude and... petty, even, to spend time with a person solely because you enjoy how they look. I'm quite taken with your mind, miss Lalonde, your critical and always-thinking mind, seeping into your personality and giving you the words and wisdom of someone four times your age, yet still with the periodic childish quizzicality and curiosity of a young girl still learning. And I'm not anywhere near as good with words as you are so I'm likely making a complete fool of myself with all this.

[She's much too analytical for her own good. She can't help it!]

I apologize. I wasn't trying to make you a fool. I suppose I'm just a little skeptical since I've had plenty of people who only had interest in the surface.

Are you really sure you're interested in pursuing a relationship with me? [She holds her head up high, but she's expecting Jake to realize his folly and say no.]

[A bit of an aggravated sigh, but he's smiling at her.]

It's who you are. And seeing as that's why I'm here, right now, making a fool of myself over you, I hardly mind.

[He bites his lip, shrinking away from her a little and coloring in the face.] W-well, I'm reasonably certain that's a two-way question. I'm all for it, but... It's also your decision.
