1 ❀

I've been looking into patronuses lately while studying for OWLs.

...Or is that patroni? Maybe patronae?

Well, whatever, in any case I've found that they generally take the form of something most significant to you. That's usually an animal of some type, because you know, animals and magical symbolism are fairly close to each other.

What sort of animal do you think yours would take the shape of? I've been thinking it over and I'm a little convinced that mine would be a magpie. If I wanted to try and make one, that is.

I think I should try it.

Why do you think yours would be a magpie?

That sounds perfect for you. We'll be going over Patronuses some time next month. Just in time for it to be relevant on the final exam.

Mine is grey wolf, for the record.

Don't worry. I'm not that cruel.

Doubtful on the notion of them being something most significant to you. I have cast it a time or two. Mine is a tiger.

Not particularly sure why. Don't have any sort of affinity to the creatures.

An eagle!
ladyliberty: (Sweeeeeet)

[personal profile] ladyliberty 2012-03-07 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
And they can fly!
ladyliberty: (*pout*)

[personal profile] ladyliberty 2012-03-10 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Floating doesn't count. It's not real flying.
ladyliberty: (Hey I found these)

[personal profile] ladyliberty 2012-03-12 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be so funny! Can you imagine?
ladyliberty: (...shit)

[personal profile] ladyliberty 2012-03-13 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really think patronuseses weigh anything. They're just happiness and magic and stuff, right?
ladyliberty: (Oh look at that!)

[personal profile] ladyliberty 2012-03-13 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Patronusi!
fashioneighsta: (what face is this idk it's happy)

If it's an animal that's significant to us, I imagine mine would be a cat.

But of course! Opalescence is a vital source of inspiration to me.

Now you have me curious. I wish we could all find out for sure at this very moment.

An advanced bit of magic, that would be! I'd love to have something like that, even if it wouldn't be as fun. 'twould be a valuable tool for researchers of the topic, too.

I think mine would be something like an owl. Like Athena, the goddess of Wisdom.
fuckilovebooks: (Socializing? I think I read about that)

[personal profile] fuckilovebooks 2012-03-10 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Well yes, but... what makes you say that?
fuckilovebooks: (God I love books)

[personal profile] fuckilovebooks 2012-03-13 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering I've yet to cast one, I doubt it will really change-- although I suppose it could, and I would never know it.
fuckilovebooks: (Socializing? I think I read about that)

[personal profile] fuckilovebooks 2012-03-14 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I have studied the theory, of course, but I've never actually managed to make one appear.
stagefrightened: (stage fright)

[personal profile] stagefrightened 2012-03-08 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I never thought about what mine would be...

Maybe a doe.
stagefrightened: (amused)

[personal profile] stagefrightened 2012-03-10 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I say it because they freeze up so easily.

But yes, that would be good.
dance_kiss_schmooze: (eyyyy!)

Don't limit yourself to just common fauna, either, Miss Arisato. You should have seen my professor's face the first time I successfully conjured a fully-formed Patronus... in the image of a hydra. Thought he was gonna lose his latkes!

[He's more boasting than being supportive, really, but hey, if she wants to interpret it that way she's more than welcome to.]
dance_kiss_schmooze: (think think think)

[personal profile] dance_kiss_schmooze 2012-03-14 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Impressive, no?

And I suppose if someone terribly boring decided to attempt the Patronus charm they might very well produce a flobberworm. I'm confident stranger things have happened.
