I've been looking into patronuses lately while studying for OWLs.

...Or is that patroni? Maybe patronae?

Well, whatever, in any case I've found that they generally take the form of something most significant to you. That's usually an animal of some type, because you know, animals and magical symbolism are fairly close to each other.

What sort of animal do you think yours would take the shape of? I've been thinking it over and I'm a little convinced that mine would be a magpie. If I wanted to try and make one, that is.

I think I should try it.

Magpies are symbolic of a happy yet changeable nature! I have to admit sometimes I get sidetracked by other things...if it wasn't for my brother I'd probably be completely over the top.

Doubtful on the notion of them being something most significant to you. I have cast it a time or two. Mine is a tiger.

Not particularly sure why. Don't have any sort of affinity to the creatures.

Tigers are a symbol of power and cunning if I'm remembering correctly. The true king of beasts! I don't think it's so far off considering your personality.

That doesn't really matter too much for a patronus, I think. I'm pretty sure all of them can fly.

What if someone had an elephant for a patronus?

It might cause earthquakes! But that would probably have to take one strong happy memory to make something like that.

I don't really think patronuseses weigh anything. They're just happiness and magic and stuff, right?

Cats can be very regal in their own way! You're probably attracted to them because of your own fashion-conscious mind.

This is fun, isn't it? It's sort of like fortune telling without the extra fuss!

Now you have me curious. I wish we could all find out for sure at this very moment.

That would be great! You'd think that some divination expert would have made a magic mirror at this point that could show us...but I guess then that could take away from the significance it has to you.

An advanced bit of magic, that would be! I'd love to have something like that, even if it wouldn't be as fun. 'twould be a valuable tool for researchers of the topic, too.

That could change, you know. I've read that under extreme emotional circumstances a patronus can change form, too.

No special reason, I just thought it was a neat fact!

Considering I've yet to cast one, I doubt it will really change-- although I suppose it could, and I would never know it.

Well I have studied the theory, of course, but I've never actually managed to make one appear.

Don't limit yourself to just common fauna, either, Miss Arisato. You should have seen my professor's face the first time I successfully conjured a fully-formed Patronus... in the image of a hydra. Thought he was gonna lose his latkes!

I don't know, wouldn't that mean that someone could produce a patronus that's a flobberworm too?


...I can't really imagine someone that boring, though.

And I suppose if someone terribly boring decided to attempt the Patronus charm they might very well produce a flobberworm. I'm confident stranger things have happened.
