and being picked on doesnt really excuse that
but i think that as long as you explain that its his actions that upset you and not him in particular then it should be okay?
youve got feelings too you know and you have to look out for them its not cool to suffer for other people when they dont appreciate it

I don't think that I can explain that to him. He's really grouchy and shit.

maybe then just give him a bit of space? you know just to breathe a bit then slowly start talking to him again
its hard to turn things around when youve started out badly but you can if you go slowly
