To anyone who might have heard about my brother Phineas' unfortunate accident and subsequent stay in hospital, mother has informed me that he's perfectly fine now. I'm sure all of those whose lives he has touched with his generosity and gentleness of spirit will be very relieved.
[The sarcasm, it's dripping off the page]
This year is turning out to be rather interesting already, I must say. Magical Languages looks as if it's going to be... enlightening.
Also, I found a copy of Spellman's Syllabary stuck between two chairs in the common room. There's no name in it. I believe I may keep it if no one claims it, so if it's yours, do speak up.

That's a very charming thing to say about your brother...

You have someone make your life miserable for as long as you can remember and then you tell me if you have anything 'charming' to say about them.
He's my brother. I'm pleased he's not dead. Aside from that, I don't see why I have to give a toss.

I don't like to look at the bad in people, that's pessimistic, you have to look at the good, because everyone has bad in them, somewhere. Like me, can't stand craneflies, got to admit, I kill those little guys the instant I see them.
Give me sort of the willies, you know?

As amusing as I find the comparison between my bully of a brother and an insect with no visible sense of direction, I'm going to have to ask where the hell you're going with this.

No, no, I wasn't comparing him to an insect, I was comparing him to me, I guess? What I'm saying is that everyone has good and bad in them, if you focus on the bad you're just being pessimistic.
I mean, yeah, there are some really, really bad people out there. But, there are jails for a reason. Because you shouldn't focus on the bad when there's also good.

Alright, I'll entertain your 'good in everyone' bullshit for a moment and give you a small insight into Phineas' mindset. You smack craneflies because they creep you out. How wonderful for you. In his case, replace 'craneflies' with 'your youngest brother' and 'creep you out' with 'for no fucking reason', and you might see how I may have some trouble with not being pessimistic.
I'd suggest you quit this attempt at a lecture while you're ahead. I'm not going to magically begin giving more of a damn about him than I absolutely have to just because there are some bad, bad people in the world that are far worse than he is.

Everything has a reason though, not saying it's a good reason, because I don't think there's ever really a good reason to smack someone about, you know, unless the whole, bad people in the world thing comes in.
That's your incentive, if he's been a sod to you, then sure, don't like him, but being happy or content about his suffering isn't making you any better than him.

Save the holier than thou speech for someone who cares.

Well, still, good luck with your new class.
