I understand that it might be a little difficult to handle given that it's only the first week back, but I can't be the only one appalled by the behaviour of the students, can I?

Honestly. It's gotten to the point where detention has become a joke and removing points is a formality. I actually have no idea how I'm meant to deal with the amount of misbehaviour going on when they won't listen to a word I say! A student went so far as to

[Actually. He doesn't really want to announce that.]

It's a little difficult to comprehend. Is there any advice anybody can give me, because I am at a loss here. I think perhaps it's time for a discussion amongst ourselves before things get even more out of hand.

We're much stronger as team than we are individually, in any case.

No, you're not the only one appalled. Frankly, I've been considering leaving a few of them chained upside down outside the Astronomy Tower for a few hours to see if the rush of blood to their heads does any good.

I suspect the Headmaster wouldn't approve of it.

I'd say bar them from everything they would consider fun within the school, but who knows where that would lead. But it's a start. Kicking them off the Quidditch team, barring them from the pitch on game day, and putting them in the dungeons on Hogsmeade weekends?

what is it you're actually
DOING IN DETENTION, DONOGHUE?
sometimes one must get creative.
LEVERS.
those sorts of things need to be tailored to a child specifically.

Taking away their trips to village might be a start.

What happened to you?

Though while I do agree that the students are horribly disrespectful, I'm not sure what else we can do that won't get us in trouble.

Maybe detentions should be harsher. Make them go clean the bathrooms with that lizard ghost at their side.

The lizard who follows you around and tells you you're doing bad and/or stupid things. You've never seen him?

If you insist. What do you need to ask me?

If they have, then I say we crack down even harder.

I say so long as we're not transfiguring students or using Dark magic, we're probably good.

while boring a student for an hour or so is an acceptable tactic
IT HARDLY DRIVES YOUR POINT HOME, DOES IT?
the point is to make them think
NOT ENGAGE IN MINDLESS BUSYWORK.

I was about to suggest cutting off the Hogsmeade trips, but looks like Ms Mercer's covered it already.

I'm guessing the diplomatic approach hasn't worked? Sometimes students just want some attention from their peers and teachers.
arachnoble: (i'm onto you)

You've done more than that. You've become boring.

[After a few moments, there are inkblots on the page as his quill drips onto the page from where it's hovering just above it. He isn't sure if he wants to reply. He isn't sure if he wants to put himself in the position to feel stupid again, not when it took a while to quit. But he's a teacher, and this is relevant to him and he can't just ignore it.

Nor can he turn into an idiotic pile of goo every time Murdoc talks. No, he realizes that he has to suck it up and deal. Besides, it's easier to come off like normal in writing anyway. Murdoc doesn't have to know he's feeling stupid or at all anxious.]

Have you thought about dropping the E bomb?

And no I don't mean enema.

Also call me nosy and all, but hey, what's that scribbled outy bit?

[Oh... if only you really knew, Murdoc. But it's probably a good thing you don't.

If only he knew you were smiling.]

Heh, yeah, true. But goddamn, there's gotta be something we can do. Because you're right, these bitches are going cray. Jaeger practically flirted with me and then told me how he's gonna splooge or something. It was creepy as fuck.

[Filteeeer]

That doesn't sound like nothing.
