1st experiment

I am Lyrl Dox, a 5th year. Though, if we're to be accurate, this is my first year here.

So this is what a proper school is like? I have to admit, the number of enchantments is impressive. Is there any purpose to the rotating staircases aside from trying to kill the students? Not that I don't enjoy the sense of murderous whimsy.

There are also quite a few more people here than I expected. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by the crowds, but there are herds of them. And they're all so absurdly loud and oblivious.

Is there some sort of spell for volume control?

Absolutely not.

Perhaps if you ran across a problem that wizardry had been trying to solve for years but had never found a magical solution for? Science might be helpful--or might not, but you would never know.

I could still try science. But I guess it doesn't matter as long as we're in school, anyway. We can't do anything fun here.

That depends on your definition of fun. Mine is going to involve the library.

What would you rather be doing?

Experimentation and invention on a scale far more grand than our school allows!

Hm. I wasn't aware there were restrictions. Are they afraid you'll turn your common room into hazardous waste?

Or hurt someone.

Terrible. We are here to learn. How does one learn without experimentation? You'd think they could set aside a room or two.

You would! I hardly intend to hurt anyone! Really, standards and all that.

Perhaps you could convince a professor to let you have an independent study? Or a club?

If it turns out reading is all I can do with my spare time I shall be rightly miffed.

I'm not a club type, but maybe I could talk to a professor... It's not ideal, but it would be better than nothing.

I would like to know what you learn. For the moment I am catching up, but I will have my own plans before long.

I am curious as to what experiments and inventions you're working on as well.
