I am Lyrl Dox, a 5th year. Though, if we're to be accurate, this is my first year here.

So this is what a proper school is like? I have to admit, the number of enchantments is impressive. Is there any purpose to the rotating staircases aside from trying to kill the students? Not that I don't enjoy the sense of murderous whimsy.

There are also quite a few more people here than I expected. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by the crowds, but there are herds of them. And they're all so absurdly loud and oblivious.

Is there some sort of spell for volume control?

'Sense of murderous whimsy' I think is one of the most interesting ways I've seen it put. My hat off to you, sir. The good thing about the staircases is they generally move on something of a schedule, so you'll be able to more or less follow it with a few weeks to a month of practice.

Ah. Now that should make for interesting practice. Perhaps they are teaching us to be aware of our surrounding. That or simply culling the herd.

I am in Gryffindor.

That explains it. I think Gryffindor might better be classified as the house of loud, overflowing enthusiasm.

I am keeping myself busy with my schoolwork, but I am wondering what else goes on at the school. If I were to do nothing but work, I could stick with my tutors.

I managed to avoid the staircases changing myself. Pretty surprising actually.
Oh, and earplugs help for the noise. It's usually only bad in the hallways between classes and at dinner or sometimes in the common rooms.

I have been using my gymnastic skills.

I will have to obtain some somehow. I was not aware tiny girls could make such high-pitched squeals. Or that boys could giggle. Or whatever it is they are doing constantly.

Hello Dox! I know I've seen you in the common room a number of times, but don't think I've properly introduced myself yet. My name is Shinra Kishitani and I'm in 4th year. And I have been attending Hogwarts for four years, so if you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them! Although I don't think I can tell you if this is what a normal school is like. Hogwarts is the only school I've ever attended, so I don't really have a point of reference.

I could use directions to the library. I have been a little too busy to find my way there as of yet. I'm only familiar with tutoring, and it was much more subdued.

Certainly! The library's on the third floor. The central staircases will take you straight there, if you're planning to go mid afternoon. Except on Thursdays.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it once you get there. It's very extensive.

My thanks. I worry that I may find myself a bit behind in some areas due to not attending until now, so it's vital I have access to the material.

That and I simply plan to spend much of my free time there, of course.

That is possible. I don't think Hogwarts operates under any sort of standardized curriculum. And I doubt personal tutors would either.

But I think that if you have a good basic understanding of magical concepts, you should do reasonably well.

And really? I spend a lot of my free time in the library as well. Especially this month. What are you planning to research?

For now, I'll continue reviewing the books used for previous years of classes. If I find nothing surprising, I'll look into whatever catches my fancy at the moment.

I was thinking perhaps anatomy and rudimentary healing spells might make a start.

It'll have to try harder. I'm quite good at jumping and have found the exercise to be enjoyable.

Where do your ambitions lie, then?

I'm used to far more exercise than I've been getting here. Some people here are so lethargic I'm surprised they aren't floating themselves between classes. Perhaps there's a rule against it.

I was keen on science until I found out about all this magic business. Now I'm a bit torn on that matter... How much of it is unimportant in the face of magic, really?

Ugh, I'll agree with you on the laziness. I'm no athlete, but energy! It's just... Fun!
