A few things

Now that everyone has settled back in to the daily routine of school life, I have a few exciting announcements to make.

Firstly, I would like to welcome Professor Inquisitor Snow. I will be working with the Ministry to find out about the odd occurrences going on since last year. Please treat him like you would any other teacher at this school.

Secondly, next week we'll have our yearly week long talk about the human body and things that happen to it.

Thirdly, the first week of October, Professor Matteris and a few other Professors will be running survival training for any students wishing to participate. Those interested should meet her bright and early the first Wednesday morning in the Great Hall.

Fourthly, With Quidditch season starting next month, we'll be kicking off the season with a friendly match between the teachers. I would like the Heads of Houses to head off the two teams, but if they are busy, that is quite fine. There is an incentive of 100 House points to the winning team that has a Head of House on it.

Lastly, there will be many things for the students to look forward to in the coming months, this Halloween we will have a memorial for those lost during the war against Lord Voldemort and during December, we will have our yearly Yule Ball. The winners of King and Queen of the Yule Ball will get a certificate to Madame Puddifoots Tea House this year.

You've never heard of him? I thought even muggles suffered through his attacks. Fascinating. The ministry did a sound job of clearing that up.

In any case, he's quite possibly the most powerful dark wizard of all time. Genocidal, maniacal and ruthless. He's a stellar example of the abuse of the dark arts, though still a very sensitive topic.

Many people prefer to refer to him as 'You Know Who' because his name still brings about a sense of danger and fear. It would be an understatement to say he did a lot of horrible things.

I haven't heard anything about it? Unless it was one of the things the news said was a terrorist attack? I didn't even know there was a war.

What type of people did he target? I've learnt about instances of this in muggle history, and it's usually illogical or strategic depending upon the motives. I don't understand how people can do that sort of thing though. It's horrible.

Is he dead now?

Probably because someone ran damage control, seeing as how we like to keep muggles unaware of the magical world. I wouldn't be surprised if lies were spread to cover up the truth.

He aspired to create pure bloodlines within the wizarding world, though really, he targeted anyone who dared oppose him. Logic isn't so much of an issue when you believe you're burdened with glorious purpose.

There isn't something wrong with anything less than pure bloodlines, is there? Is this sort of ideology wide-spread or just limited to him and anyone who actually did support him?

There's a belief that a pureblooded line is required to properly use magic to its full potential. Yes, there are people who did and still do support these claims. You'll find less people get away with such opinions now, particularly after he vanished.

There's adversity and bigoted opinions within any society. If you can narrow down a difference between two people you can find a reason for them to dislike each other.

That makes sense but that doesn't make it right. I've seen that sort of thing, although not to that severity outside of the news. There were kids at my old school who didn't like this on girl because of the shoes she wore. I think it was mostly an excuse but it was really dumb.

There's not a lot in human nature that makes sense. Some people think they make more sense than others. Sometimes they're right, sometimes they're idiots.
