Things are much better. Have been much better. I doubt there were a great many concerned but for the few annoying individuals who would not leave well enough alone, I am quite alright. The less said the better, honestly.
I'm not certain what Snow is thinking. Dark Magic like this is not something that could so easily infiltrate Hogwarts. He knows as much. I am beginning to suspect rather than being stupid, he is intentionally trying to hide something.
Far too early to go too far with such speculations. But I will certainly keep good records of these events for future analysis. Jumping to conclusions is the worst we could do in the interim. This makes two attacks in less than a year. There will be more. There can be certainty in that fact alone.

It is an adult behind this all, obviously. Snow is either protecting that adult or also uncertain as to which teacher it is. Seeing how they follow through with these new rules and making it seem his suspicions are elsewhere may be a ploy to draw them out.
Snow could be on the side of good here and his methods might be simple diversion tactics.
There are a great many variables to consider.

Well, yeah, I figured this was more of an intimidation tactic rather than an actual search, but now that you mention it... If it doubles as a trap, it's safe to say it's also an attempt to keep the student body in line -- I mean, random trunk checks? C'mon.
Still, there's something that doesn't quite fit.

It's just [inkblots again. this time, he takes his time writing.]
An artifact powerful enough to influence people? Not the kind of thing professors--even those affiliated to the Dark Arts--would happen to have lying around. I wouldn't say an object like this is unheard of, but it's no murderous linen sheet or hand of glory.

I agree that there is a very small chance this was done accidentally. I still can’t rule out the possibility it was done for our benefit, though.

Our benefit?
