I'm sure you guys have seen Professor Vantas's family tree assignment. I have to admit I'm at a loss of how to proceed with it.
Have you guys started?

Do you know anything about my mother?

[But he does shift slightly at the mention of Dirk's grandparents. Of all the people he wants to talk about, they rank in the 9th level of hell fucking no.]
There ain't a lot to say about 'em. They're muggles. As muggle as you can get.
no subject
What about their parents and the parents' parents? If they're all muggles how'd we get magic?
no subject
I really don't know. I haven't examined the family tree closely. As far as I know, all the magic started with me.

But is that how it works? Can someone just become magical? Isn't it hereditary?

[He lets out a small sigh, because he has a feeling this isn't going to be the end of it.]
Look, if you want me to do a little digging I can, but it might take a while.
[Despite the sigh, he doesn't actually sound reluctant. Admittedly a part of him's gotten curious about it too, and he probably would in his spare time anyway.]

God, Uncle Dirk. Your accent got bloody awful just then. But yes, if you don't mind, I'd appreciate it. Or if you'd rather, I could try doing it myself. I'd just need names and sources.

But yeah. I'll do it, just gimme a while or whatever. I think it'd be easier if I did it. Maybe you could help though, if you wanted. It's up to you.
no subject
If I didn't want to help, I wouldn't have suggested it. Just tell me what I need to do.
no subject
I dunno what I'll have you do right now. I need to figure out where the hell to start and I have no idea. This isn't gonna be easy.
no subject
I appreciate it nonetheless. There isn't a need to rush though. I know you're busy.

[He reaches out, ruffling Dirk's hair a little bit and giving him a small smile, before holding his hand out for the more customary fistbump.]
