Steadily, I'm falling under the idea that many people use the Doubling Charm to be cheap. Why would you duplicate your cup instead of just buying a second one? It's just going to decay over time. The origin of it is reasonable enough and I understand the practical and strategic uses, but from my studying, it seems most people misuse it. Maybe that's just "muggle" of me.

Also, after going over the duties and the time requirements, I'm thinking of becoming a prefect.

No, you're right, magic makes things much more efficient. Much as machines do, or, say, the assembly line system. But I suppose those are misuse as well. And before you say those also require 'hard work', I'll point out that not everyone can do that particular spell, nor is it something one learns in first year. A very significant amount of work is required to get to it.

And not everyone can make a machine or invent just one, let alone assemble it correctly. Don't forget maintenance and other human efforts that go into the whole act.

That being said, you make a good point, I still don't agree, but you have a valid point. I overlooked the efforts to learn the spellwork.

So how, exactly, is it a misuse to use skills one has worked for to make life a little easier? Some of us aren't actually rolling in money, nor do we have the means to get it, being in school and all and underage.

I think you're ignoring my use of the word practical. If you're so poor that you can't afford to buy a second cup, then it's practical to use your magic to make one, but if you're wealthy or at least have the financial means to buy a second cup without issues, then that's just being cheap. Though, if you're in a situation where something isn't available, it's practical to use the spell.

Well, most wizards with a load of money aren't going to double things, either, they're just going to buy them, because they want the fancy stuff.

Yes, people do throw money around a lot when they have it.

Why be nice? I've found people with a great deal of money rarely bother to return the favor.

You're not friends with many wealthy people, are you?

No, but I have several of them for roommates, and they've never impressed me as much of anything other than prats.

Well, their type isn't usually very easy to get along with.
