I suppose I should be glad that, as tests and finals go, 6th year is kind of a breather year. The OWLs are behind you and the NEWTs are still looming on the horizon but otherwise not an immediate threat. I personally didn't think the OWLs were all that bad, even though my marks were just decent. Nothing to write home about, especially since the family wouldn't know what nocturnal birds have to do with tests anyway. Still, good luck to everyone who's got to square off against the big tests this year, especially if you're still trying to get your head sorted after the school's most recent bout with strangeness.

Ah yeah, about that, the odd mind and body stuff. The only thing I had to deal with was a body that was about 20 years older than it ought've been (and the same height I am now, of course). I remember the whole thing pretty clearly, but I think that's because my mind wasn't changed. So... for those of you who've been told that their brains were mixed up, do you remember anything about those days at all? Is it like you blacked out for a few days, or is it all a little fuzzy, or do you remember all of it clearly?

I ask because I'm sure I'm soon to have a certain conversation, and this'll give me some insight on where that talk will fall on a scale of "awkward" to "stupdendously awkward".

Wait, you found out that the body 'takes care' of that sort of thing after you, er, tried it out for yourself? It's usually the other way around.

I wanted to get a head start on puberty. I'm not really one for surprises in that area--well, in anything related to the mind generally. Get a handle on dealing with urges before they make a mess of my hard earned logic. As it happens, I'm immune. Besides acne and general physical awkwardness, puberty was a breeze.

[John cocks an eyebrow at Sherlock, wondering how much of that is true. Still, he shrugs, not caring enough to press Sherlock about that 'immunity'. Probably because it could easily end up deflected back at him.]

Well, you're a lucky one then. Here I thought puberty was one of those great equalizers in life. Like, yeah you feel awkward and confused, but at least everyone else is too.

Or is this just another case where you're the exception to the rule?

I'm a pureblood wizard more interested in a muggle life who is now dating a heterosexual male classmate. John, I am always the exception.

[He smirks, rather proud of being unique and in all ways exceptional.]

[John gives a huff of laughter at that.]

You'll just keep accumulating contradictions until you collapse in on yourself as a black hole.

Do I even count as heterosexual anymore? It's really confusing. I know for a fact I'm not gay, and to be bi, you probably need to have been attracted to more than one person of your own gender. Hetero-and-Also-Only-One-Other-Bloke-So-Far-sexual is a a bit unwieldy.

I certainly don't care what you term it. I'm no less adamant about my own lack of sexuality despite dating you. It's really no one's business but your own--not even mine, honestly. But I'm not offended by any defense of your liking females. It doesn't effect me or us. So say what you like.

[John props his chin on the palm of his hand in thought.]

In other words, we really are adrift, huh? We'll have to define our own normal, since everyone else's take on it doesn't match up.

Good thing I wasn't planning on getting love advice from the quizzes of gossipy teen magazines.

[Sherlock nods, watching John out the corner of his eye.]

Since there is no baseline, we can do no wrong. Rather liberating in that sense.
