John, that is an utterly stupid question. V stands for Valentines. My research says it is traditionally shortened as such. Is this really the first time you've seen it abbreviated?

There's rather a shortage of occasions starting with the letter V which you would get a card for.

It's not a literal card. Though I guess sometimes a "Thank You" card afterwards wouldn't go amiss.

I could be blunt with this, but you like brain-teasers. Think of things that somebody can give another that starts with the word "v".

Whoever it was, it was probably so they could talk about it openly without their parents catching on. Hell, maybe so people would make the same Valentine's Day card connection and think nothing of it.

Instead of, y'know, keeping that stuff to themselves around people who don't need to hear about it.
