If I ever think about snakes again, it'll be too soon. I'm officially done with their slithery ways. They can all either grow some legs and be proper lizards or just steer clear of me. All snakes the world over are officially notified. The ball's in your court now, snakes.

I'd also like to apologize to anyone who might've got distracted from what they were doing if they caught sight of all the snogging Sherlock and I were doing in the Great Hall. And the not-as-great halls. And the courtyard. And... you know, just. Take this as a general apology.

A future version of myself was married so I suppose I was rather foolish in not amending that possibility right then and there but all previous experiences had pointed to a displeasure in so much as kissing. It still remains to be seen if such enjoyment was only by virtue of the potion but there's always time for further study.

I nearly forgot about the you-married-in-the-future thing. Hell, all your talk about alternate futures had me nearly forgetting my own experience there, though the fact that that memory's as hazy as ever doesn't help.

I'm a sociopath. I don't feel empathy. Rather a necessary component for love, isn't it? I would have thought so, anyway. Artificial eros apparently doesn't require it.

It wasn't as bad as I would've thought. I mean, you know, there's the whole potion thing. And I still like girls. But it wasn't... that is, what I think I mean to say is, it could've been worse.

Had you been kissing anyone but me, I probably would have quite adamantly tried to bring you to reason. Though I suppose I'll take it as a compliment that even with my lack of skill, I still could have been worse.

Regardless of my own drugged affinities, had I seen you kissing a man, I would have put an end to it. It's almost a shame really that we were similarly affected. Though I do wonder if you would have allowed me to have carried on with anyone despite what you know of me were you not under its effects.

I'd definitely try to convince you something was weird since... well, honestly, suddenly being head-over-heels for someone and snogging them isn't too typical of you. I don't know if I'd be able to automatically figure out that a love potion was involved, but I bet you could if I was able to pry you away from whoever caught your eye long enough. You were able to figure out that a love potion was involved while we were both drugged, after all.

That was more so because of Tony having eyes for Herbert than anything.

Um, probably. Maybe we can laugh about it one day, but might be a good idea to give it a wide berth for now. But like you said, at least you learned about the romantic aspects of human emotion.

Yes, given what we could have been left with, I believe we did.

The emotions and physical interactivity are... still up for debate. I need to test and see how much was the potion and how much was me. But even if those tests are inconclusive or negative in any way, at least I have the memories.

You're probably right. A little space might be... well, it might help put things in perspective. It's not been long since the potion wore off, and we've both got things to figure out.

Fairly easily, really. Just do the same things I did before only this time without the potion's influence.

Shall we say a week? A fortnight? It might turn indefinite if there's no end date.

Now that's a solid plan if ever I heard one.

Just a week, I think. That'd definitely be long enough to get every last drop of the potion residue - if there is any - out of our systems. Two weeks just seems a bit long.

The question is if we'll want to clear things up again after that probation week.

What is there left to clear up? We were both under the effects of a love potion and cannot either of us be held responsible for our actions during that time. That seems rather clear already.

Though I doubt it needs clarification, you forgot to make mention that you and I are not 'together' as such, despite recent appearances. Apologies are one thing but do try and remember that some of us have reputations to consider.

[There's a few inkblots from where John taps his quill on the page as he buries is face in frustration. Technically it's a good and true clarification, but something about it still rubs him the wrong way.]
