My mother was pregnant with me in her last year of school. Dad didn't even ask her to marry him until he was able to scrounge up the money to get cheap wedding rings. What sort of start is that? Two eighteen year olds stuck together because of a kid and impending training for a long time career?

I don't...know how mothers are supposed to act. Given an assignment to be a mother was the quickest way to fail.

FROM THE TIME I WAS BORN, MY DAD WAS ALWAYS AWAY ON BUSINESS.
HE WAS A LIEUTENANT MAJOR IN THE ARMY, SO HE WAS BARELY HOME AND ALL I REALLY HAD WAS MY MOTHER.
I GUESS THE POINT I'M TRYING TO MAKE IS
WE'RE NOT OUR PARENTS.
IT DOESN'T MATTER IF WE KNOW HOW TO ACT LIKE THEM OR NOT.
THE KEY TO THIS ASSIGNMENT WAS COMMUNICATION, AND I THINK WE MISSED THAT IN A LOT OF WAYS.
WE JUST NEED TO GIVE HER LOTS OF LOVE AND ATTENTION.
