I know, Professor, but you still could have picked another House. I know the Slytherins have more of an intellectual reputation.

Don't under sell your House when it comes to being smart. The other Houses are free to do the project on their own time but Professor Rhydderch is in charge of what the Gryffindor and Slytherin students learn.

I know that! But Professor Mercer could have well chosen Slytherins; they're thought of as smarter.

Why would she have given an assignment to students who aren't hers? That doesn't make any sense. I doubt Professor Rhydderch would agree with her adding to whatever coursework he has planned.

Because Professor Mercer is very serious about things, I think, and she'd want this done very well. Besides, this isn't a normal assignment.

Yes, it is. It's a project for Potions. I fail to see how you can be so confused about this. Teachers can't just go give students that aren't theirs work to do. Professor Donoghue can't give us Potions homework, either, for similar reasons. And unless you think Mercer is assigning this project because she needs her goats cared for and she hasn't time to do it herself, the point is not who will do it better, but to teach about how certain reagents are made. Personally, I think it's a waste of time for anyone 4th year and above, but it IS an assignment, not some task that must be accomplished by anyone.

Relax, Herbert. I'm not losing sleep over it or anything. I was thinking it of more of a task than an assignment.

We get marks on it, it's an assignment. Otherwise I wouldn't be doing it at all.
