I must apologize for the delay in addressing the Halloween incident. You can rest easy knowing that I've been hard at work on the matter ever since it happened, contacting the Ministry and coming to the best course of action.

The Ministry and I believe that a powerful, dark magical object was brought into the school as a prank intended to make the ministry look like a fool for disregarding the incident at camp. The situation got out of hand, as you are all well aware of. As such, the Ministry has decided that in the next couple of weeks, security in the castle is going to be tightened considerably. Random trunk checks will be conducted and anyone leaving or entering the castle will be searched thoroughly, as will mail.

Finally, I will be questioning everyone personally. I will find out who did this, and I will make sure they are punished accordingly, expulsion being the minimum.

Yes, I do. Dark magic, when it's actually dark magic, is a very serious offense. Especially when students are involved.

Tell me it's a prank when you're seeing the ghost of your own dead sister, who died in the war, telling you that you'll never be good enough to do anything in this world. Or will the next words out of your mouth be that there never was a war, and that was all made up by the bloody Daily Prophet?

This is why I said it was a prank that got out of control. I'm not denying the fact that things got serious. But I don't believe it was the work of dark wizards; I believe it was a student with very, very poor judgment.

Of course there was a war, I'm not denying that and doing so would be stupid.

Sir, I have an idea on the matter regarding the whole incident and I'd like to hear your perspective.

The castle here is pretty old right? And it's been exposed to a pretty high concentration of magic and has been imbued with tons of spells throughout all of those years correct?

Wouldn't it be plausible then that due to all that exposure over the years that the castle has a kind of magic of it's own kind and sometimes it acts on it's own volition? And that this incident is a result of that?

I do not believe that to be possible, no. Magic tends to die over time, not grow stronger. Why do you think so many magical artifacts are currently useless? Only the strongest of spells stick around, and any skilled witch or wizard will put fail safes into place to ensure that their magic doesn't interact with others for unseen effects.

I find it hard to believe you of all people are ignorant on what happened, Miss Everdeen.

I believe it was a prank gone wrong, as I said. Someone left a dark magical object lying around and it got out of control. I don't know who, but I will find out.

You need only look around to see the effects of the object. It was rather wide spread.

No. If you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear.

A quick look over the journals would answer your question, but suffice it to say a dark magical object had effects I don't think the culprit intended. It tapped into people's fears and insecurities, by the looks of it.

Tedious, yes. But it's all in the name of your safety.

You will be notified when your stuff is to be gone through. You may watch, but are not allowed to intervene. If anything if confiscated, you will know of it.

I realise this is extremely delayed, but after the detention I've had time to reflect on my own behaviour and I realise how grave my folly was.
I would like to apologise for my behaviour and I strive to prevent something like that from happening again.
