quasistellar: ([human] million years' detention)

three ♓ voice;

[You may want to cover your ears for this one, folks. Professor Constance Peixes is angry. She is very angry. She hasn't sent a Howler, but this might as well be one going out to the entire faculty and student body.]

I am absolutely appalled at the degree of inappropriate subject matter that our students are currently discussing in their journals. You should all be ashamed of yourselves, and particularly so for discussing it with incoming first-years. Mr. Makara and Mr. Kishitani, you both have a month's detention, beginning on the first day of fall term. Mr. Makara, for writing the entry in question, and Mr. Kishitani, for encouraging the discussion, particularly among the younger students.

What in Merlin's name were you thinking? This isn't a 'friendly discussion about biology', this was getting students to discuss matters of a highly personal and private nature! And at the ages of eleven, twelve, and thirteen!

AND MY DAUGHTER AMONG THOSE STUDENTS!

You continued arguing about it being perfectly all right to discuss touching oneself after some of the younger girls said they weren't comfortable with it! They were right to think that their mothers wouldn't want to see them in the middle of a discussion like that, because they don't!

To the rest of you: I highly recommend you think before you write a journal entry discussing a topic of a sexual nature, and frankly, I discourage you from doing so.

i didnt make the post and it was mostly just the three of us on the one that i made where we started this conversation
and anyway i think its good the way you adults act your going to make the little ones think its bad to appreciate their own bodies :/
maybe if you adults didnt act like it was a big deal it wouldnt be such a big deal and everyone would be happier for it

Mr Jaegar, I don't really care about what you do in your free time so long as it is legal. I also respect that you have your own opinions. But I'd like you to just pause and think about how upset Professor Peixes is. Or how uncomfortable you made some of your fellow students, especially the younger ones. Did it not occur to you that not everyone shares your views on these issues?

Or do their opinions not matter now?

[this post comes very slowly and the writing is measurably less haphazard than it usually is. He's taking his time to word things right, putting effort into how he presents his argument. Congratulations, Coulson, you get to be privy to one of his rare moments of seriousness!]

i didn't talk to any of the younger ones nor did i force anyone to answer
the one person i really did encourage seemed like he needed someone to talk to him about things without judgement or without being yelled at about how inappropriate it is
i accept that you do not think its appropriate but i stand by my belief that open discussion is better because it creates an informed environment of acceptance
furthermore if they are uncomfortable we are not forcing them to take part in the conversation they could put their journal down and walk away at any time
or they could rip the page dedicated to the subject out of the journal it is just paper after all
i understand that the professor is upset and for that i feel bad
but i think that if feferi choses to engage in these conversations it is her business and any disagreement should be dealt with between them

[He has that effect on people, :/]

I'm glad that you do feel bad for your professor. I'm not against open discussion, but sensitive issues of a sexual matter require a certain level of maturity and should be discussed in an appropriate environment, not over your journals. It's easy for younger students to misinterpret a lot of what was being discussed earlier, and we have no clue how many of them have come away from this incident with wrong ideas of masturbation. You've put some parents in difficult positions of explaining these matters to their children who may be too young to fully understand the discussion.

Professor Peixes was mainly upset regarding her daughter's involvement, but she was also angry that you had exposed our younger students to topics considered indecent in our current society. Some of them may have walked away, but others may have chosen to simply observe the comments without saying anything.

The journals are meant for everyone, regardless of age and gender. If people have to worry that they'll see matters they're not comfortable with every time they open their journals, then I'm afraid that would only serve to alienate people from their journals, rather than promote communication between students.

The issue here is simply that Mr Kishitani and Mr Makara brought up sensitive topics that should, by right, be filtered to older students.

i was informed at eleven but i guess thats beside the point
i still dont agree entirely but van is working to make a filter and i am more than willing to help him with it
because itll make him happy not because of what teachers are saying
so it wont be a problem once that gets put in place

Not everyone's parents talk to them about touching yourself at the age of eleven, and it's usually a quite a serious topic.
I agree. You shouldn't be doing this for the teachers; you should be doing it because your friends weren't comfortable with it.
