quasistellar: ([human] million years' detention)

three ♓ voice;

[You may want to cover your ears for this one, folks. Professor Constance Peixes is angry. She is very angry. She hasn't sent a Howler, but this might as well be one going out to the entire faculty and student body.]

I am absolutely appalled at the degree of inappropriate subject matter that our students are currently discussing in their journals. You should all be ashamed of yourselves, and particularly so for discussing it with incoming first-years. Mr. Makara and Mr. Kishitani, you both have a month's detention, beginning on the first day of fall term. Mr. Makara, for writing the entry in question, and Mr. Kishitani, for encouraging the discussion, particularly among the younger students.

What in Merlin's name were you thinking? This isn't a 'friendly discussion about biology', this was getting students to discuss matters of a highly personal and private nature! And at the ages of eleven, twelve, and thirteen!

AND MY DAUGHTER AMONG THOSE STUDENTS!

You continued arguing about it being perfectly all right to discuss touching oneself after some of the younger girls said they weren't comfortable with it! They were right to think that their mothers wouldn't want to see them in the middle of a discussion like that, because they don't!

To the rest of you: I highly recommend you think before you write a journal entry discussing a topic of a sexual nature, and frankly, I discourage you from doing so.

I know the entire student body reads them, so I think Makara must have figured that they would be the most efficient means of collecting data.

[And yet another pause]

Would you be able to tell me how the discussion was inappropriate, Professor Donoghue. I'm still rather confused about that.
From what I understand, masturbation is a perfectly normal biologic function for most people, so I don't see why we shouldn't be talking about it.

Data for unnecessary means, yes. For someone so incredibly gifted in the mind, simple concepts seem a bit beyond your scope of measurement! Not to mention the fruitless "research" you seem to engage in.

It is not an APPROPRIATE discussion for school, regardless of personal opinions. It's entirely situational and such a survey should not have been conducted without PROPER PERMISSIONS. Do you know EVERYONE you asked? Do you know if such a question made them uncomfortable? Biological or not, it's subjective and certainly not proper conversation for TWEVLVE YEAR OLDS who can see said entry.

[He's switching to voice now. And filtering to Professor Donoghue]

With all due respect, Professor Donoghue, it wasn't for unnecessary means. We were trying to figure out how often was normal.

No, I didn't know everyone who was asked, but if you only survey people you know, you end up with skewed data.
And the question was fairly straightforward. We weren't asking for any details or actively encouraging anyone to masturbate if they didn't particularly want to, so I'm not sure why it would have made them uncomfortable.
Although in retrospect, Am-- someone did point out that some people might be embarrassed about how often they do it. And I suppose that is a valid point.

Why is findin' that out important enough to compromise what you should damn well know is inappropriate for school journals?

You know what? I don't care if you all want to talk about it. I don't care if you get together and do it for your little projects BUT you will not use the school journals in such a manner AGAIN and you will not subject people who DON'T KNOW BETTER to such utter nonsense. It's as simple as that.

[He's going to pause for a moment to consider his response. But well... Professor Donoghue did ask. ]

Makara, Jeager and I were talking about masturbation and we realized that some of us do it much more often than others We wanted to know what was normal, so Gamzee asked the student body and I think that was very resourceful of him.

Yes, it was terribly resourceful of you to utilise a means of communication used for school purposes. Ones that people as young as eleven can read and their parents can see.

But aren't the school journals meant to be used to share information? That's essentially what we were doing.
Other students might have been asking the same questions.

How many times do I have to tell you it's inappropriate before you realise?
