I am absolutely appalled at the degree of inappropriate subject matter that our students are currently discussing in their journals. You should all be ashamed of yourselves, and particularly so for discussing it with incoming first-years. Mr. Makara and Mr. Kishitani, you both have a month's detention, beginning on the first day of fall term. Mr. Makara, for writing the entry in question, and Mr. Kishitani, for encouraging the discussion, particularly among the younger students.

What in Merlin's name were you thinking? This isn't a 'friendly discussion about biology', this was getting students to discuss matters of a highly personal and private nature! And at the ages of eleven, twelve, and thirteen!

AND MY DAUGHTER AMONG THOSE STUDENTS!

You continued arguing about it being perfectly all right to discuss touching oneself after some of the younger girls said they weren't comfortable with it! They were right to think that their mothers wouldn't want to see them in the middle of a discussion like that, because they don't!

To the rest of you: I highly recommend you think before you write a journal entry discussing a topic of a sexual nature, and frankly, I discourage you from doing so.

You were, in fact, discussing sexual content. It might not have been intercourse, but it was still sexual content.

And the fact remains that it was brought up to the entire student body. Including our incoming first-years. I know at least a few students were worried about having their parents taking their journals away. We don't know what's happened at this point. It might have happened.

Mr. Kishitani is in trouble for pressuring some students to reply even though they were clearly uncomfortable. Repeatedly asking why it's a big deal to someone counts as harassing them.

While I am sorry that neither your parents or a trusted adult didn't have a proper discussion with you, it is still not your place to begin that conversation with younger students.

If you look at the most recent journal entries, you will see that one of your fellow students has been given heavy restrictions on the use of her journal. Did you think about the consequences for others? She's quite upset about the matter. She used her journal for talking with her best friend, and now she can't do that. Think about what it would be like to have an important means of communicating with your best friend taken away.

She has stated that Mr. Kishitani did make her feel pressured and uncomfortable. I wouldn't call that 'having nothing to do with it'.
