Now that school is nearly back in session, I have a question for the Ravenclaw and Slytherin students taking my class. I'd noticed a couple of you were going above and beyond expectations, but I'd also noticed quite a few of you failing to meet the standards set for you. As such, I am offering an hour long extension class for ALL years twice a week in which we will cover old topics more thoroughly and begin to study new things ahead of the usual regime.

These classes will, of course, benefit your grades. So if you are unhappy with your marks or looking for extra lessons, I would consider signing up here.

If it is of any interest, these lessons will also include swimming lessons and you do not need to be in my class to attend those. You will not be doing a repeat of camp, so be sure to bring actual swimming clothes if you attend. You may sign up here, and yes, we will be joining the squid in the lake. Even if you are capable of swimming, I am able to assist you with your form and speed.

I don't plan to be an Auror or anything like that sir... I just don't see how my being able to cast offensive spells should affect my learning.

How am I meant to know you can protect yourself when you've done nothing to prove it?

The majority of spells learnt in class are defensive, Mister Banner. You've nothing to worry about.

With all due respect, sir, I find having offensive spells fired at me to show my self-defence capabilities very worrying, controlled environment or not.

You're essentially telling me that just because I don't want to cast spells at other students for practice sake even if I know the theory perfectly you'll fail me.

Practicals are at least half the grade. If you're unable to defend yourself and practise the applied knowledge then you most certainly have failed half the course.

That's perfectly fine. You will still be expected to attend the extra classes on top of private tutorials.

Will I be able to substitute any of the practical classes for swimming?

The swimming and practicals are two entirely different classes.

You are not obligated to learn how to swim, but I would advise it.
