Now that school is nearly back in session, I have a question for the Ravenclaw and Slytherin students taking my class. I'd noticed a couple of you were going above and beyond expectations, but I'd also noticed quite a few of you failing to meet the standards set for you. As such, I am offering an hour long extension class for ALL years twice a week in which we will cover old topics more thoroughly and begin to study new things ahead of the usual regime.
These classes will, of course, benefit your grades. So if you are unhappy with your marks or looking for extra lessons, I would consider signing up here.
If it is of any interest, these lessons will also include swimming lessons and you do not need to be in my class to attend those. You will not be doing a repeat of camp, so be sure to bring actual swimming clothes if you attend. You may sign up here, and yes, we will be joining the squid in the lake. Even if you are capable of swimming, I am able to assist you with your form and speed.

Mr.Banner. Given the amount of classes you've missed, these classes will be mandatory and they will include practicals.

Well, it all depends on the age you 8egin at. You often learn in a pool, a man made container of water, and you usually 8egin 8y holding on to the side of the pool and learning to kick while a teacher assists you. You learn 8asic 8reathing patterns, like 8lowing 8u88les under water and then turning your head to take in air. Then you'll often 8e given a flotation device, what is usually called a kick8oard to hold on with your arms while you propel yourself through the water. And then they start teaching you the strokes, usually 8eginning with freestyle. Then if you want you can learn other strokes, like 8ackstroke, 8reaststroke and 8utterfly. Schools sometimes give lessons, mostly if you can't swim at least 25 metres all at once 8y the time you're 11. And we often get 8asic first aid, in case we're swimming with someone and they start to drown. How to get them out of the water safely, how to clear their lungs and if need 8e how to resuscitate them. Non magically of course.
How do pure8loods learn?

That's rather interesting. Curiously enough, it's not all that different in the wizarding world. However, the magically inclined have a tendancy to rely far too heavily on their wands and not physical skill. I do know a few spells to keep oneself afloat, but it's as basic as learning to walk or riding a broom, it's something that comes from practise and instinct.

Well that's good to know. Sometimes the different cultures of the magical and muggle world really aren't that different. There are some devices muggles can use for flotation, like inflata8le rings, or 8oards, 8ut I do agree. The physical skill and instinct is needed. Not all of us will 8e a8le to maintain an a8ility to cast wandless spells, and sometimes they can 8e easily lost. A wizard or witch's greatest weakness is relying to closely on her wand, and unfortunately that doesn't always seem to 8e trained out of some of us.

I must admit I'm curious about the inflatable rings. Can't imagine they appear all that dignified.
That most certainly my intention with this class. That and making sure that nobody drowns. That would be unpleasant.
no subject
Very unpleasant.
[There's a few blue inkdrops as Aranea considers and debates her thoughts, before slowly writing it out]
Professor, there was something I wanted to ask you, 8ut until school 8egins I am una8le to cast the needed spells to filter the message... 8ut perhaps, if I word it right...
May I ask you a question of a personal nature?

If it's so important that it can't wait a week, I suppose I can oblige. What's the matter?

... Oh I know I should't pry, and that curiosity is said to have killed the metaphorical cat, 8ut as you may know Meenah Piexes and I have a close 8ond of friendship, and as such often maintain a steady stream of contact through the summer. Thus, when one of is distressed, or struggling with something we often confide in one another, and we are thus privy to information others may not 8e. The only pro8lem 8eing that often Meenah has a penchant for... telling tall tales, I suppose. She can 8e highly dramatic you see. And thus I have learnt to take everything she says with a small grain of salt, 8ecause while she has good heart and means well she does get carried away
[She's rambling. And as soon as she realises this, she stops, small drops of blue ink falling on the page as she collects herself]
...My apologises I got carried away. Essentially, my question, as you can see revolves around Meenah, and information she has shared with me this summer and whether this information is, in fact, true.
...Are you really her father?
[perma filter!]
You are correct. She has not been lying and I would prefer it if you didn't spread it around the school.
[perma filter!!!!!!!!]
...Then you are also Feferi's father, correct? And yes, I will be the uttermost careful with this information. A Serket can keep a secret.
no subject
They're twins, Miss Serket. It would be difficult to be the father of just one.
no subject
I'm sure I've heard of rare cases of different men fathering twins. 8ut yes, I suppose that was a silly question, when the answer is o8vious.
...Is she still 8eing stu88orn and not talking to you?
no subject
Fascinating as it may be, I can assure you it isn't the case.
She is, and it's frustrating, but forcing myself into their family wouldn't endear me to her in the slightest. I don't suppose you could talk to her about it? Tell her I'm not as horrible as she thinks?
no subject
I know. You, yourself, just confirmed that it wasn't after all.
She's very resistant to change unfortunately. She's still adjusting to her mother 8eing more around these days. Sometimes I think she used to see Gloria as her mother, and not Professor Piexes. 8ut I'd 8e glad to talk to her professor. Sometimes she'll listen to me, if I can catch her in the right mood and make it concise enough.
no subject
I think I'm familiar with that sort of situation, but I don't think I should elaborate on it. This is a rather delicate situation for someone as young as yourself to be involved in, so I apologise.
no subject
And yes that was an intentional misspelling, as an example of what I mean by fishpuns.
It's fine Professor. Even if she doesn't listen to me it's 8etter have tried than never made any form of attempt.
no subject
I appreciate it. You're probably my one chance right now. I really doubt she's going to change her mind over me any time soon, though.
no subject
Your welcome. And yes, you're right there, but perhaps I can help sway her mind a bit sooner than expected.
no subject
If you could, I would be indebted to you.

It’s fine Professor. I’ll see what I can do then.
